so i have said that i cant get applewood down here in az... i proved myself wrong... imagin' that. Turns out there is an apple orchard way back in the mountains called Beatty's Guest ranch and orchard(http://www.beattysguestranch.com (http://www.beattysguestranch.com/)/)... i went up there to investigate, and asked the owner if he ever sold the wood from trees he had to cut down, and he said no...but c'mon back and take some from this pile back here... he let me outta there with two wheelbarrels full of apple. still need to stack it and let it season s'more cuz he just cut em down over the winter.

Great score.

Beatty is quite the character and is well known to birders. I have been up to his place.

Was back in March of '04. Based ourselves out of Sierra Vista and birded all over SE Arizona. LOVED it. We will get back there someday for sure.

BTW, there was a very good BBQ joint over in Patagonia called "Red's" Is it still there.

He was a pitmaster in some central Texas joint but was allergic to the cedar pollen there so moved to Arizona. He split his time between the Patagonia location and another one he had in Benson.

Good score! Check down around Wilcox, they have Apple and Peach orchards. Out by Sonoita, Coolidge and Florence there are many Grape Vineyards.

I had a similar score about a year ago. Guy cut down his tree and just wanted someone to haul it away. Best part was when i was there I asked the guy if he had anymore trees he needed help with and he cut me about 4 wheel barrow loads of Pecan at the same time.

Thanks farmers, you guys are the best.

Great score OP

I always return a 5 lb. bag of pulled pork to the farmers I get fruit wood from. Next time they take out an orchard or have decent sized trimmings from pruning season they call me. Sure beats having to buy the wood from an unknown source.

Nice job Yassir. That's how I get all my wood. See tree. Stop. Ask. Load. Season. Smoke!
Park it! Grill it! Eat it!
