It looks odd cause of the faux lava rocks, the coals are under the skillet in a fire basket.

My Gawd---Sacrilige---if you posted that picture on the cast iron cookin website you'd be in trouble for the skillet chop shop. They make skillets without long handles---just a little tab on each side.

If you can't break out the power tools, what's the point in cooking:cool:

Me and you both. I thought Popdaddy's posts were confusing.
I think I'm just gonna paypal landarc 300 bucks so he can buy a WSM and end all this kettle sillyness. That being said, it sure seems like he's produced better que on his kettle than other peeps have on $10,000 smoker rigs. :clap2:

I would take a WSM, yes I would. Or a Fat50 for that matter.

You will have to use the lower kettle grate. If you set the skillet [minus one handle] directly on the ring it binds the leafs and you cannot control the intake.

landarc
03-13-2010, 08:52 PM
I got a plan for that too.

I'm going to do something I don't normally do. I'm agreeing with Leonard here. Dang...I'm freaking speechless.

Landarc did you condone the murder of a cast iron skillet?

Let's be honest here, we are talking dismemberment, not murder. The skillet is obviously still able to function without it's limb.

landarc

Not my skillet. I was gonna go looking for a cast iron griddle that was no longer usable for cooking. One of those griddles with 'ears' would be perfect. That being said, I did mention the removal of the handle as an option. Of course, not off of one of my skillets.

It still has a handle, Just somewhat smaller than before. 1st cook was murder dunn a 4# roast cooked fast was tough as a two dollar steak flavor was o.k.

Don't hate!
A UDS is not allowed at my house due to the boss. I bought another kettle because she said they look good.

Now, Landarc and I will think about how to make a kettle cook like a BGE, lol

I do own a UDS and a CI skillet [minus handle] and like both. Their like kids, you like both differently, but equally.

I was thinking that is someone took and 18" kettle and sat it in a 22.5" kettle and injected a little insulating foam into it, you could end up with an insulated kettle. But, even as I work on this modification, I am considering a bread oven made from a kettle.

Oh, and my intent is to get burns at 275F to 280F on the high end. I use soup cans for moisture. Beer bottles are too precious to me as a home brewer.

They are not quite that precious. Plus, the death threats from ChuckwagonBBQ and BBQGrail that they better never find a butchered C.I. pan in my house skeered me off.
