Derek,
Just a couple of suggestions,
You may want to make a stand for your smoker. You will be gaining weight in the near future and it will be hard to bend over. :)
If you leave your smoker outdoors put a cover over the electronics. They are not water proof.
Enjoy your new smoker...

Derek,
The smoke is coming from the wrong area.
Open up your top vent all the way and adjust the temp control.

A couple of things i might suggest on your smoker.
Put aluminum foil on the drip pan at bottom of smoker to make clean up easier. Punch a hole thru alum for drainage. I have never had much grease reach the back pan.
I make a foil hat and sit it on top of the smoker heat unit also. This helps to keep down burning stuff stuck on top of it.
I like to spray shelves with pam before each use for cleanup ez. You can use cheap generic type. Really helps with clean up.

jonThat's kind of what I was thinking, but I'm still a major noobie.

jonThanks Jon, I'll keep the advice in my mind, and I'll do that when I do my first smoke.
