I got turned on to Plowboys Yardbird and Bovine Bold by the Brethren and thought I would try one of them on a pork butt. The Yardbird is great on chicken wings and thighs. I have not tried the Bovine Bold on anything yet.

I would appreciate your thoughts on using one or the other on a pork butt.

I would and have used the Yardbird on pork. It does just fine!

I'm sure Plowboy will chime in here at any time. I would use the Yardbird myself on a butt. The bovine would be fine but I don't like that much celery flavor on pork.

I used Yardbird on a pork butt for New Year's, I thought the taste was good. However, there were some complaints that it lacked some punch and that some more chile powder was needed. I liked the flavor myself and will use it again. I am not sure the lack of punch was the rub.

I'd go with Yardbird! I've used it and had good results.

As an official member of Plowboy Nation, Yardbird is your traditional answer. A number of competitive BBQ teams use Yardbird on pork and chicken.

I agree. Yardbird all the way. If it's not hot enough for you, add a little cayenne to the mix. I did one a few weeks ago, and loved it straight out of the can.

Yardbird, but Bovine Bold will work well also. I've tried both. Yardbird is more traditional, but I'll use Bovine Bold again to cook a butt for specific uses.

1 more vote for Yardbird on Pork and chicken. Bovine bold better on beef.

I uses bovine bold on my last boston butt and it came out great. Do 2 butts and use yardbird on one and bovine bold on the other and see which one you like best.

What's the main difference between the two?

Yardbird is not bad on butts, but it is too salty for me on ribs. I have bovine bold and I use it on brisket.

Yardbird is not bad on butts, but it is too salty for me on ribs. I have bovine bold and I use it on brisket.

We have found the same thing for our tastes.

I did two racks of spares this weekend, one with Bovine Bold and one with a light coating of Yardbird and Bovine was the favored rack.

To keep the Yardbird rack from being too salty I decreased the amount I would normally use. It was too light of a dusting to have too much flavor impact.

Love the Yardbird on chicken and butts though.

Yardbird works for me. Also add a little Montreal steak seasoning.
