I plan to do some bbq beans in the crockpot tomorrow...(the beans are soaking overnight as I type)...and am not sure where to post the thread. This recipe calls for a 20 oz bag of Cajun 15 bean soup mix...I am using Hurst's HamBeens sans the spice packet that was included...below is the recipe...
The beans...^^^...
1lb diced smoked pork...
2 cups chicken broth...
1 cup chopped onion...
18 oz. bbq sauce...
1/4 cup brown sugar...
1/4 cup molasses...
1/2 teaspoon salt...
1/4 teaspoon cayenne...
This is where I'm at so far...

Good start. Do you ever heat them to shorten the soak? I season the water and boil for 15 min then let em sit overnight.

We do too Bob...I've made the soup version a few times but thought I'd try my version of some bbq beans...hopefully they'll turn out...if not...I'll tweak the recipe a bit.

The Cajun 15 bean soup is good. Soaking the beans overnight is to"de-gass" the beans by removing the complex carbohydrates we cannot digest, however the cold water is not very effective at removing them. A better method is to bring the water to a rolling boil, put the beans in and remove from the heat, let soak for 1 hour, drain and discard the water then continue with the recipe. I learned this from listening to radio KCBS.

You're killing me...I can't wait much longer, it's getting past my suppertime down here in Portland. Stomach's been growling all afternoon waiting for the crock-pot to finish!

Thanks for the post, Gregg
