The stores have Prime Rib for 5 and change a pound. They have either the large end or the small end. which is the end to buy? My first reaction is the big end. Right/wrong?

I believe you want the small end which is toward the back closer to loin. The front would be chuck end, but then again im not 100% so dont listen to me:shock:

The small end it is! Just for grins ask the butcher what grade of meat it is. It seems that every rib roast is called prime these days. The prime rib I have ordered is actually choice grade. Butcher said he didn't even order real prime this year.

Loin end is best.
Prime Rib is USDA Prime, everything else is a standing rib roast.
I just picked a choice Roast, Prime has more marbling. You're probably not going to get USDA Prime for 5 bucks a pound, if you do, introduce me to your butcher!

I got prime for about $7. But I spend a lotta money at the butcher.

BTW- Small end.
