So what did you guys get? (Besides Davids cool new smoker)

I want to here some reviews of what I got, cause some of it is new to me.

Kids gave me one of theose reversable grill/griddle dealies that also thaw meat. Can use them on stove or grill top.

Wife bought me a 3 pack of Henckel Knives (8" 6" and 4"). They say "Professional S" and also say Ice Hardened and Stain Free. Anyone know if these are any good?

Bro in Law from Houston sent me this Big Ass 54oz tub of Gordons Grub Rub. How do you Texas folks use this stuff.

He also sent a "Legends of Texas BBQ Cookbook, Recipes and Recollections from the Pit Bosses". Looks like I got some fine reading ahead of me.

So what did you guys get?

Bill It's my understanding that Henckel makes some of the best knives in the world.
You probably got some instructions (as to care) follow these instructions, and they should last you a life time.
Nice haul!! 8)

Thanks. I think I remember them from the knife thread a while back. I'll go dig it up.

From what I recall, I am supposed to leave them on the counter full of guts and stuff after using them, then throw them in the dishwasher, and take them out about a week later.

LOL

Thanks Harry, and Merry Christmas.

If it's the same Grub Rub I got from Brian then it's good on just about everything we cook! I've used it on brisket and port butt -- think I've used it on ribs, too.

Nice haul!! Nearly all my Christmas gifts were 'que related -- including my Big Dog tee-shirt!! :D

Santa gave me a heavy duty Ford F250! My wife and I were upside down on a lease. WAY UPSIDE DOWN. Went to a used car lot after several e-mail conversations with the sales person. He started to show us around and I shot straight with him about us, my school, our finances, and where we wanted to be payment-wise. He let us know that because we were so upside down that the banks wouldn't write a loan for more than a car was worth so he would have to scour the lot for cars with "play in the budget" (meaning they made a killing on the trade in). He and I hit it off and got to talking about his family and getting laid off from Boeing. Knowing I wanted a pickup, he came back with two, a Ford 150 six cylinder, and a 250. Both had 50K miles and were 2001 models. Both were clean, and the payment over five years worked out to 19 dollars difference to boot. They came down SEVERAL THOUSAND off both of them, and gave us MORE THAN BLUEBOOK ON OUR VAN on the trade-in! Who would have thought from a used lot?
Gas mileage is more than I wanted to deal with, but I haul a LOT of crap in a pickup. I have filled a bed to the brim with wood and hauled it 500 miles, and hauled cars etc. It is nice to know that I can do it in a truck that is built to handle more abuse than I'm gonna give it.
I can't wait to finish my degree and get back in the workforce! My wife has some serious spoiling that I need to catch up on!! :D

Looks like you guys with the trucks made out pretty well!! Hopefully we'll be in the market about this time next year!! Congratualations.

I did ok -- new smoker, new wireless thermometer, couple of new pans (hey, I cook -- a LOT! :D), and I was allowed to go unescorted to Lowe's the other night for the mod materials :D, we're all healthy and all my sons are home for the first time in 4 years!!

The brisket and turkey both came out great -- it was a really nice Christmas -- even the weather cooperated: it was sunny but cool (high of about 70) for a Florida Christmas.

Dang.....sounds like you guys made out good.....I got:

A PS2 with Nascar Thunder 2004 and the force feedback wheel;
about 20 DVD's I've been wanting;
a DVD player that plays recorded DVD's and picture CD's;
buncha new shirts;
a goodie basket of sauces, pickled stuff and coffee syrups;
several hot sauce gift sets;
and "A pirate looks at 50" by Jimmy Buffet;
and a portable winch for my 4 wheeler.

The gifts are cool but my favorite part is waking up early early Christmas morning, when I set out all the Santa stuff, and it's real quiet. I make a pot of coffee, turn the tree on and just sit there and think about how lucky I am to have a wonderful family, wonderful friends and all of our good health. I believe part of my growing up was learning that it's not about the Christmas magic that happens to me, it's about the Christmas magic I can make happen for others.

Merry Christmas my Brothers!!

God that oak smells good. Been throwing in a few chunks of apple too

Glad you're enjoying it. Bout time for me to make another run down the street to get some more. I saw about 4-5 six inch long logs off that trunk at a time. That tree should be gone by spring....LOL.

My next cook will be New Year's Eve....3 picnic shoulder's and about 6 racks of BB's. Bryan cryo'd BB's on sale at Neighborhood Walmart for 3.48/lb right now. Gotta go stock up.

Enjoy the cookin!!

Amazing. Not only did I get something I wanted, but its the one I would have bought! Santa brought me a Cabella's Ultimate Stainless Turkey Fryer with 30 qt. pot, steamer/boiler insert, and the side shelf. Plus I got the 110v oil pump, extra filters, 4.5 gals. of peanut oil, injectible marinade goodies, a medium size thawed turkey ...and a sincere, if belated, request to get it all put together and figured out in time to cook Turkey dinner Christmas afternoon. And that all started after my first 3 Christmas morning coffees with rum. Whew! What a busy day!

My first turk was a little overdone, but we never knew exactly how much the darn bird weighed. Can't wait to try it again, and clam and seafood boils. Woo-Hoo. :D

Bill, my little cooker family has expanded!

Congratulations! I enjoy using my fryerr and did a turkey for Christmas, too.

Don't believe all the commercials -- you have to make an effort to burn down the house :D

Best of luck and, again, congratulations!

Our local news did a story about frying turkeys back during Thanksgiving. They had this idiot reporter dressed up in firefighter gear to show what could happen if you fry a turkey wrong. Well first of all, the genius was using a frozen bird. Then he swung it up and over the side of the pot....KERSPLASH!!!! Yes, it boiled over....yes, it caught on fire. I figured he'd go ahead and finish off the segment by trying to put out the fire with water.....now that would have been good entertainment!!!

No you don’t!! Believe it or not, there’s a lot of
folks out there that “have education without common sense.”
and not enough that “have common sense without education”.
Believe Richie’s tag line. It’s amazing how true it is. :(
Thank God for the Brethren to keep the rest of us straight. :)

I Don't need any more vehicles. Especially a namby pamby luxery truck. I will take my old plain Jane suburban, with the heavy duty 4WD, 3 on the floor plus a granny low, and a cold weather package. All business and no frills. I did get a new laptop a few months ago so that was my real Christmas. I also got Alton Brown's Gear for your Kitchen book and a BBQ basting brush that my 3 yr old Grand Daughter picked out. Also a few DVD's and a package or T-shirts. My daughters always get me underwear to get even for all the years that the wife and I stuffed their stockings with undies. And finally I got a side of beef (grass fed herferd) to keep me busy during the year.

Damn that's my standard trading post offering. Anyhow I treat Grub Rub like you treat SF. Knock your dick in the dirt good stuff. Only problems is it lumps real bad, helps to nuke it for 30 seconds before using. When I first sampled it at a flea market the guy was making pork steak on a electric fry pan, at that was enough to convince me.

I might just have to put the electric knife away, and use it only to cut up wood chunks.
