Hey,

Kingsford has the secret recipe for the Skippy Burgers up on their facebook page. Please note that the accompanying photo is from the burger turn-ins but is NOT of the Skippy Burgers.

Fanny Ann's Saloon in Old Sacramento and The Bear in Chico which are both owned by the same company have been serving Skippy Burgers or Jiffy Burgers for the last 30 years that I know of. I hope Kingsford isn't trying to claim this recipe!

EDIT:
Just read the recipe! Where the hell is the Skippy peanutbutter? That is what is in a Skippy Burger!

Nope. This "Skippy" burger is named after it's creator/master, Skip.

Swamp Pit BBQ’s Cheeseburgers

Ingredients:

2 lbs ground beef (preferably 80/20)
1 stick butter
1 loaf marble rye bread
2 tsp salt
2 tsp pepper (black, ground)
½ tsp turmeric
¾ tsp paprika (sweet)
½ tsp onion powder
½ tsp garlic powder
1 large onion (sautéed)
1 tbsp vegetable oil

Preparation


Mix spices together
Sautee onions with a pinch of ground beef and vegetable oil
Divide meat into 2/3 cup portions (approx. 1/3 lbs)
Form patties and depress middle to account for shrinkage and rounding
Create a medium hot fire
Place patties on grill and cover the BBQ
Cook for roughly 2.5 minutes (burgers will be ready to flip when they lift easily from the grill)
Flip burgers and season with spice blend
Cook burgers to preferred wellness (use an instant read thermometer if possible)
a. Rare:125 – 130 degrees
b. Medium: 140 - 150 degrees
c. Well: 160 degrees
Butter the slices of marble rye and place on griddle. Add cheese, onions and patty. Cover with another slice of cheese and another slice of marble rye.
Flip the sandwich when browned.
Remove from griddle and enjoy!
