Work on the twins continues. Burning out the barrels is so much nicer when you don't have a liner to deal with.

If theres no liner, why the burn?

Now you have to paint them.

Mainly for the exterior paint but also to insure there was no rust inhibitor sprayed on the inside or more accurately to burn off any spray that might have been applied. That, and and I needed to get rid of a chit load of brush from around the property. This way I cross of one thing from the honey do list and work on my twins at the same time. And I like to burns things. :)

so help a newby out....

What's a liner? Do some drums come with a liner?
If you don't have a liner you don't have to do a pre-burn unless your worried about some residue?

Thinking of building a smoker out of some SS drums....do I not need to worry about a burn with stainless?

Thanks

Some food grade barrels have a orange spray on liner thats next to impossible to get off. It takes several high temp burns and a wire wheel to get down to bare metal. My first barrel was lik ethis. I vowed never to do it a second time. I burned ou the barrels I have but probably didn't need to. I planned on painting them so a burnout helps get the exterior paint off as well as insure any rust inhibitor (if any) is burned off as well.

Gotcha.

So would you recommend doing a burn on a Stainless Steel barrel? I guess it wouldn't hurt, right? Just seems like SS would be pretty "sterile".
