I heard a rumor the other day that Royal Oak has gone out of business! I find it hard to believe. Does anyone know anything about this?

I sure as heck hope not, it's my best source of lump in my area.

Yeah, I don't know how that could be true, but everyone that sold Royal Oak around
switched over to Kingsford.

One might have heard that from a K dealer. They are still making product, still making all of wally's.Just now am I finding junk in bags, insulation, rocks and metal banding, after twenty years using. Still a great product, just more labor to use(sifting). Steve.

R19 Charcoal. That is probably why BGE says the Eggs are great for cold weather cooking.

I spoke with Ken Dyer at corporate (678-461-3200). He said that they are absolutely not closing and are doing great. The RO brand itself may not be as prevelant as it used to be but they co-brand Wally, Sams and hundreds of others in both bricks and lump.

I told him some folks have been seeing quality issues lately (foreign crap like insulation and rocks like I have found, too) and he first defended RO (of course) but said that their address is on every bag and they would love to have some of the funny stuff returned. They will send a GC for a new bag. You probably don't have to send a full bag back!

If that's what they want, I'll send them some of the rocks I've found...

My Wal-Mart has a pallet in stock and the rocks and concrete are at no extra charge:evil:

If I still had them I would send the rocks and UPC bar code. I think I would be out on paying for shipping a back of RO back just to get a free bag. I doubt the math would work in my favor.

My wally has them at $9.00 a bag, up from $6.00 a bag a few weeks ago. Funny thing, there must have been 200 bags of KF all over the place.

I do have them, but since Wal-Mart sells them for $6.97 for 10 lb. bag in my area...it's probably not worth the hassle.

I have to keep practicing with my WSM, K is all I can use and get any type of temp control. I much prefer RO. I will figure it out or probably sell the WSM and find a 35 gallon barrel to make a mini.

You can use RO briquettes int he WSM, but the K briqs are usually cheaper.

my k mart has ro lump and briq at 5.99 a bag. i think a year or so ago the rumour of ro going out of business made the rounds. i think it was due to them closing a plant in the east.

all walmart stocks in my area(ontario, canada) is royal oak...they dont even have kingsford available... ours is a little expensive but we get bricks for 8.97 bag(18lbs) or 10lbs of lumb for the same price

i prefer RO anyways..works best for me and i like the over all taste of my Q'd food better than Kingsford

Are you all talking about lump or briquettes? I just pick up the
"Steakhouse Lump" at Menards for a comp last weekend for $4.68/8.8#. I did not have any problems or did I see any foreign matter.

Did you write to the address on the bag?

They would have sent you a GC for a new "K" bag, but without a flashlight unfortunately.

We had a Menards open just recently....they had the RO briquettes on sale for 4.97....I bought 4 bags....Tried an overnight cook with it, and had to keep supplementing with Kingsford.......I took 2 bags back and got my money back.
I guess I should have donated it to Sled.....
