Kind of new to BBQ. I ended up buying a Primo Oval and dove in head first. I have not competed except for some loud mouth friends that talk a big game. Mostly its an excuse to be outside and knock a few back. One thing though, its really hard to find a good BBQ joint around here. Maybe too far north i don't know??

Welcome to the asylum!

Have you checked out the LTH forums (http://www.lthforum.com/bb/index.php)? There is a lot of info there about local restaurants. Out of the BBQ places, the ones that get the most coverage are Smoque (http://www.smoquebbq.com/), Honey 1 (http://www.honey1bbq.com/), Lem's (http://www.lthforum.com/bb/viewtopic.php?p=79247) and Barbara Ann's (http://www.lthforum.com/bb/viewtopic.php?t=4137). The last three are in tough neighborhoods. Smoque is on the near north side of the city. I haven't tried any of them yet.

Depending on where you are, you can always go to Kenosha to the BBQ Factory (http://www.thebarbequefactory.com/) (run by Dr. Porkenstein, Alex, and his wife Kate). I also saw a mention of a new place in Wheaton on the LTH forums (http://www.lthforum.com/bb/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=14251) called Butler's BBQ and Grill (http://butlersbbqandgrill.com/), but I haven't tried it yet.

Of course, the best BBQ in the Chicago area is in Batavia, in my back yard :-D

I've tried 'Smoque', I wasn't impressed (I feel like Guy Fieri let me down.... (http://www.bbq-brethren.com/forum/showthread.php?t=39915&highlight=smoque) )

Howdy & welcome. I'm with RonL. When I get BBQ at places around here I'm usually not that impressed. The backyard is best and the beer is cheaper!:icon_cool
