Usually I work nights so I don't cook all that often during the week but today I worked days and was all excited about firing up the egg tonight...Nothing big planned just some split chicken breasts and potatoes for the wife and I. Get everything ready and go out to start up the egg and as luck would have it, it was frozen shut . Tried dropping a starter cube down through the top but I still had the pizza stone in there so the left over lump didn't ignite and it wouldn't open...Guess I will have to wait until wednesday when it warms up to open her up...Anybody have any suggestions on how to open a frozen egg??

Open the bottom slider and put the fire starter in there. Heat rises.
Or move to California!!

How about a big flat screwdriver.

J/K the starter in the draft door sounds like a good idea.

Gasoline and a match. That'll open it!

I second the hair dryer suggestion.

I'm not sure I'd try to pry it open with a paint scraper (scared of messing something up).

When you're crying because it won't open, drip the tears around the outside of the lid so the salt water thaws it.

I have used a hair dryer around the gasket before. Quite the feeling when you go to lift the lid and it won't budge no matter how hard you pull huh?

Warmed up today and managed to get it open..I guess a cover for it will be added to my christmas list. It's amazing that when I lifted the handle the front of the egg started coming out of the nest. Guess that ice keeps everything nice and tight.

No that's funny. I wouldn't know what to do either........not cause we have problems with freezing, but because I don't have an egg!
Glad you got it open.

Seriously, when I first read that I was thinking the hinges had rusted shut. That is what frozen usually means in Texas.

Jorge, it is supposed to be cold here tomorrow.
