:eek:This was turned in at a recent comp and I had the pleasure of judging it. Where do you start. This is my facsimile of the box. And the size is about right, nickle thickness and Twinkie size. I might have to much lettuce but it's close. I talked with a few Brethern at this comp and I know it wasn't your's! Oh did I mention it has tuff as jerky:!:

"4" for appearance.

Is that brisket that is SLICED WITH THE GRAIN?

That's a weird looking box. Those guys should attend a BBQ school or prep-class. At the very least they should surf the internet for BBQ box pictures.

Clean and neat, but not appetizing. Top left piece looks wrinkled like bacon. I'd rate it very low.

No spam this is beef, I tried to copy the box to a "T". I keep clicking the Brethern Photo Gallery just to bring me back. KCBS encourages us to start scores at a 6 but I was at a loss when our table saw this.. If your team turned this in, wouldn't you want to no whats wrong or why you scored so low? Some body neeeds to do some home work:!: I did post this some where else so if your seen it before, we must be traveling in the same circle!

It definitely has to much lettuce and not enough sauce in the box. If he would have done a little of those fancy lines with some sauce for extra presentation points.

Have they never been to a competition. Have they never seen one on tv. That's pretty darn bad. Maybe they were going for the minimalist look.

Can you configure the pieces to spell "Eat Me" ;).

That had to be a joke.

Looks more like they were telling the judges BITE ME.

Wow I have never seen a box that bad before it is completely unappetizing The most I could give a box like that would be a 4.

I dont even mind the minimalist greens...Just give me some nice slices to score!

Did we also determine type of meat, was it spam, chicken, meatloaf?

I don't want to be little any team, so I'm not saying which comp it was, maybe I shouldn't even post this box! It's some thing I made up. For my post I used roast beef from the deli, some of you have eagle eyes!

I would give it a borderline 5 and that's only if it looked as moist in person as you made your pic look. A dry look would get a 4. If that's the way they really did their lettuce, then it did nothing to enhance the appearance, it actually detracted from it (distracted me) and they would have been better off leaving it out.

With that said, I would give them the benefit of the doubt for taste and tenderness. You said it was nickel thin though and with each piece laid out on it's own like that, my eyes tell me undercooked and dry. As I've said before though, sometimes looks are deceiving and something can taste a heckuva lot better than it looks. Appearance would still have to be a borderline 5 though.

Wow! That is almost as bad as an entry I judged at the royal last weekend. It was sliced similarly to this one, but was so dry it was starting to curl up at the ends. Maybe I'm a jerk, but I gave it a 3, and would probably give this a 3 also...maybe a 4 if i was feeling generous. BTW...the other one did not taste any better than it looked!

I would say a 5 max. It does nothing to make me want to jump in there & chow down. If this is what theirs' really looked like, that team needs some help!

4. Doesn't look the least bit appetizing for a competition entry to me.

Rick, I cannot in my wildest dreams image anything you would have turned in deserving of a 5. NO FARKIN WAY! This is just bizzar.

Maybe I should be clearer. A score of 9 on appearance (for me) is a box that makes me want to grab it from the TC and dig in right there. I judge down from there. On this one I judged way down but still gave the benifit of the doubt because it was a pic of a re-creation from memory. If that very box would have hit my table the score could have been lower, but nothing higher than a 5. I have helped cook on a team a few times, I try to give a fair score. It was hard to give even a 5 to this one.
