My parents were asking what I wanted for my birthday. I wasn't quite sure. So I told them to let me think about it. I tried for a SpiceWine, but they said I was nuts. So does anyone have any ideas?

How you set for thermos?
How about a selection of rubs and or sauces you have been wanting to try?
I would say a Large BGE but not sure how far the folks are willing to go...

I have a good set of knives and 3 cookers. I was thinking about a thermapen. I make my own rubs and sauces.

You started out high with the Spicewine. back off a little with the Large BGE. If they tell you that you're nuts again go down to a smaller Egg, and then to a WSM until they give in :-D

A thermapen would be a great gift (especially the high-accuracy, hard-to-lose Yellow one).

You can't go wrong with a reliable super fast red thermapen.

What is the difference in colors of the Thermapens?

Mike,

First, congratulations, you just started Thermopen war 447 on here.

I would go for a Lg BGE even if I had to pay half myself!

I can't afford to chip in the extra money for the big egg... I just spent some money at Home Depot to finish my UDS.

Thermopen is $90 range. Eggs run a lot more. Big is $600 range. Have not priced smaller as big is what I want.

What is the difference in colors of the Thermapens?

The color of the Thermapen denotes three things...

1. Speed
2. Accuracy
3. Desirability

In order

Yellow - Fastest, most accurate, hard to lose, chick magnet
Black - Just as fast and accurate as yellow, but runs in stealth mode. Also a chick magnet
Red - slower and less accurate. May attract chicks
Orange - Slower and less accurate (except when paired with a matching lawn mower.)
Green - Even slower and less accurate. Chick neutral.
Blue - The loser's choice in Thermapens. Will actually drive chicks away.
Camo - Reserved for Brethren from Michigan.

If you have to settle on a Thermopen, pick whatever color comes to mind as you read this. Then you will have the fastest and most accurate piece of equipment for bbq'n.

How about a gift certificate to your favorite butcher or if you have Restaurant Depot. Throw yourself an all out "Que" Bday bash and then your parents will want to get you the BGE.

Heat resistant gloves - for handling your meat
Bear claws - for shredding your meat
Maverick thermo w/ 2nd probe for pit temp and remote monitor
Just to name a few ideas off the top of my head.

Happy B-day by the way.

We don't have a restaurant depot around that I know of and don't have a butcher. As a matter of fact, I don't think I have ever stepped into a butcher shop. I get all my meats from the grocery store.

Ask for a Nu-temp 701 with three probes. That way you can check your pit temp as well as two meats while lying on you couch inside drinking a brewskie. :icon_cool

Orange: sold only at Home Depot
Blue: sold only at Lowe's and Wallyw0rld
Red: sold only at Target
Yellow: reserved for online sales
Black: pending underground sales

I wish I could edit that. Everyone knows that blue is the best.

Ok, so A Blue Thermopen... Anything else? I thought about a welder, or maybe a tattoo... So many decisions....
