I am looking to purchase a vaccuum seal system and was wondering what the majority of you use on here. Foodsaver? If so what model and why?

I've got a cordless Seal-A-Meal similar to this one http://www.amazon.com/Rival-VS125-Cordless-Rechargeable-Brushed/dp/B000ASDX56, but black.

I love it when it's plugged in. Plenty of power and faily quick on the vacum. The downside is that if you are doing several bags, you have to wait about 30 seconds to a minute or so after doing one bag before doing the next one to let the heating element cool down.

When it's being used cordless, it works fine, but it takes a little longer to get a good vacum seal. If I ever go to a contest, it will be good to have to seal up everything afterwards without needing a plug.

Bags are about $10 for 20 or so and they are at Wal-Mart and Target, etc. You can use the bags from the other machines also.

Good to know. I am builiding a UDS this weekend or early next week and I want to be able to buy meats and store them.

I was on the foodsaver site and looking but I was not sure which model would be best for what I want to do.

Been using the same Foodsaver for about 3 years now. If it takes the plunge will most likely buy another Foodsaver.

I have this one: http://www.foodsaver.com/ProductDetails.aspx?productid=5507

I got it on Amazon for only $110, but I think I got lucky one day because it was supposed to be $125. I did a search that day and landed on Amazon. The Amazon listing showed a bonus for an additional $15 off if I bought it at that moment. So I did. I haven't seen it anywhere close to that price since. Not even on a refurb.

I love this thing, so if you can get a good price, go for it.

What is the brand and name of this one. I like the wide sealing area and the see thru lid. How much $$$ was it?

I use the foodsaver brand. I have several, one at the lake, one at home and a "backup". you can find them pretty cheap on ebay. Foodsaver is pretty good about backing up their products, even out of warranty. If you have several hundred bucks to spend, check out the ones that Cabela's carrys. They are more of a "commercial" style.

I have a really old Food Saver that is on it's last legs.
Although it worked well, it's time for a new one.

I have a foodsaver that works good. i really like that fact that mine has a toggle lock on the side so you don't have to press on it to make the seal. You really need to use the corrugated bags with the foodsavers. There is a guy at work that has a sealer that uses a needle to pump the air out of the bag, and it works on just plain bags as well as the corrugated. I don't know the name brand, but he said it works really well.

FoodSaver V-2440. One thing I like is the seal only button, our old one didn't have that and I would recommend that feature.

I bought a Seal-A-Meal a couple of years ago off of CL. It only worked a few times and went belly up. I called Rival and they sent me a new one. That one only worked a few times and went belly up as well. I called them and they sent another one. This one has worked great with a bunch of uses.

Moral of the story... I don't think the Seal-A-Meal brand is that great, but their customer service is pretty darn good.

BTW... I use the bulk bags from Sam's and cut them to whatever length I need them. It is great for racks of ribs.

Since I sell and give away alot of BBQ I switched over to a "Snorkel Vac" system from sorbent systems. (WWW.sorbentsystems.com) The bags are really cheap and can either be vac. or just sealed.
