I have several pallets of Apple and soon oak. They are in split log form right now about 2 ft. lengths. What is the safest and most reasonable way to take them to chunks. More like cutting them down to 1/3 or even 1/4?

a Band saw

If you have one, thats the safest.
Chop saws are dangerous for cutting logs (bindage)!
Worst case use a sawzall.

A chainsaw is probably the easiest.

The safest and easiest would be (not listed in rank):

table saw
radial arm saw
miter saw
steel chop saw with wood blade

I will split them first then use a radial arm saw to cut them to the proper chunk size. I just use leather gloves are keep a firm grip to prvent binding and such. When doing a bunch, it is easy to get lax, so be careful.

Very good advice. Also best to keep the beer on ice till after you're done.

I use a 10" mitre saw. Just need to be careful with wood grain and if possible stay away from knots.
