There's a little, and I mean little, shop in Urbana, Ohio, where my family has gotten burgers for years. All they make is burgers and dogs. They make their own mustard even, and didn't have ketchup available until 1992. They opened in 1927, and they stills serve small burgers that are cooked on a griddle covered with about 1/2 inch of special recipe grease (really). They are NOT sliders, which are tasteless White Castle steamed burgers. We call them greasy burgers, and the best way to get them is dipped, which means they dip the top of the bun in the grease quickly.

Originally, there were 6 stools, and no more seating. That building is long gone, and they now are in their own building, with a 33% expansion to 8 seats (6 are still the original, with 2 new seats). Burgers are 55 cents, and most people get 4-6 for a meal. They have a variety of chips, including locally made Mumford's, my favorite chips. These were probably the first burgers I ever ate not made by my mom.

www.epicurious.com listed them as one of the top 10 burgers in the US (this is associated with Gourmet and Bon Apetit magazines), and they recently got written up in a book about US burgers. These are different than any burger you've had unless you've been there... and I'm working 15 minutes from there for the first time in my life! 2 trips a week for the next few weeks!

Hey....I've been there! (I have a customer in Urbana). Those are excellent.

There is also a little sub shop downtown (North of the statue). Can't remember the name of it, but they make outstanding subs.....and of course, serve those excellent Mumford chips.

Curt,
If you know what's good for you you'll have a sack of those burgers for Divemaster and me when we come to cook the "Pretty Good BBQ" event.

Not to steal the thread but does anyone know the name of the restaurant on the North side of Milwaukee that serves a chunk of butter atop each burger. I'm talking big chunk of butta. T

The bad part of greasy burgers it that they don't cool off well :) They nuke great, but if you don't eat them hot, they're full of congealed grease. :)

Put me on that list too Curt!!:-D

There's a little diner here in Chilibobo that serves little burgers like that. Good stuff! Carl's Townhouse. Just had some a couple of days ago. Carl's has been around for a LONG time. The building is such a historical landmark that they actually jacked it up and moved it through the streets to it's new location several years ago.

First, I'll guarantee those burgers are NOT the same. :) They may be great, but not the same.

Second, and this if for the record, I will in no way have these burgers at the Pretty Good Barbecue! Come on... I'm going to be busy enough without that pressure! :)

Bucky,

Unless that place delivers to Long Island, that was an evil and cruel post.

I was thinking the same thing...

Then I recommend that you have a pre-warmed cooler to keep them hot...

Sounds like it could be a deal breaker... We two "Masters" are going to have to discuss this....

Could be the look similar, but they're only made in Ohio.
