Im curious as to what Rancher Charcoal is.. I have seen a book on making your own charcoal. What type of wood do they use to make it?

Well if your talking about making Cowboy, you would use construction site debris and hardwood floor scraps (fastners included)

that bad I usually use a half bag to get my offset trailer going but I burn wood for the duration of the cook so I really wouldn't be an authority on cowboy brand

Now that I got the La Caja, Rancher is starting to look attractive to me! Otherwise I'm using the 23 bags I have left for WSM cooks.

Check out TVWB site for info ordering Rancher by the pallet. Organize and do a group buy if you gotta have it that bad, but doubtful we'll ever see it at $2.99 again.

Heh, are you pulling my leg? Making charcoal is easy.. Just need Hardwood, sealed vessel, heat and time.. If you had a cheap/free source of hardwood the cost would be pennies.. For cooking food you would want to use untreated/no fasteners/no glue to avoid the toxins in your grub.

I've made lots of lump. Not what I was making reference to. There have been so many discussions about "rancher" already.

:twisted::twisted::twisted::twisted::twisted:

Rancher is all natural made from Yucca Starch and wood. They take it and make briquettes:biggrin:

Most here love this stuff! The company strung us out on it as if it were "crack!" Some of us used too much of our own supply and now are having withdrawals! Do you get my farking drift?

A friend of mine went to the home office in NC (Charlotte I think) a week or two ago. He brought back about 1/2 a pallet @ about $4 a bag. He talked to the owner and the guy said he thinks they are going to get it back in Home Depot but he didn't know when. He also said they are working hard at trying to get it in at other national resellers, but it is really hard to overcome the name recognition of the big boys.

If you really want it then buying a pallet is the way to go.

The HD in my area had rancher for about 2 weeks....what I had is all gone. I now have a choice of cowboy, kingsford, occasionally RO, or a 8 hour round trip drive to find something else.

SOOOOOO True!!! I bought some cowboy last weekend because it was the only lump I could find. There was a piece in the bag with writing on it. It really was scrap from a job site. I threw the rest away and bought some BGE lump.

Hi Bill,
Our warehouse is in Gastonia, NC. You can pick-up volume there, or we
can ship.
We have our 100% all-natural hardwood lump in Ingles, IGA, Galaxy Foods,
and Carlie C's. The RANCHER will be in all these except for Ingles, within
the months.
ALSO, we will be presenting to all of the Big Box within the next 6-8
weeks. We need all teh noise that we can get to capture their attention and have the RANCHER back in your area.
Let us know if we can provide you with our 100% all-natural charcoal.
Thank you for your continued interest and support,
Eric

Send him an email.... tell him you can not find it, and want to know who carries it in your area. It seems right now they are getting it into some of the grocery stores.

Has anybody tried their lump?

Gastonia...Holy Crap...that is where my sister-in-laws live and my wife & MIL are driving up there in a few weeks. Wonder if I can get them to fill the trunk up for the trip home.

Here is their website if anybody should need it....

There isn't a lot of info their, but all the products, and contact is there... what else does one want. Besides a pallet of lump, or briquets???

I emailed them awhile ago with no response, Called Home depot and complained to them for not carrying it anymore. I just checked, I'm down to 70 bags or so... Hope to find it somewhere close so I don't have to pay shipping or drive to NC to pick some up. Only choice we have here is that crap they call kingsford and cowboy lump. Once in a great while our lowes will have royal oak briquettes.
