I actually got a WSM. I can't beleive it. Me Mr. offset-stick burner has a robot smoker.

I picked it up for $100.00 in great shape. It was all taken apart when I got it so I couldn't see what goes where. So, how does it go together and how do I cook a hot and fast chicken on it?

Well I wasn't in the market for a new cooker this just kind of dropped in my lap. I'd love an egg however $100.00 compared to $500.00 plus for someone who doesn't need another cooker......

I know... I have three smokers and two webers... I live alone (when my daughter is at collage)... She thinks I have more ways to cook outside than inside (and she is right).....

Just remember that craigslist is your friend.... My BGE only cost $150...

Congrats Zilla.
The TVWB site is pretty much the place to go for strictly WSM info.
If'n you need further help, let me know. I'm not too shabby with WSM operation.

OK... The part with the silver legs on it is the bottom. The part with the handle on it is the top. The other piece is the middle.

You've probably figured out how it goes together. If you want to do chicken foil the water pan for easy clean up but leave it empty. Fill the charcoal ring about 2/3 with unlit charcoal and then dump about 20 lit briquettes on top of the unlit. Then put on the middle with the grates and foiled water pan in it and the top. Leave all of the vents open until the temp get close to where you want it then start to close the bottom vents a little bit at a time until it is stable at your desired temp. It's much easier to manage the temps as they climb than to get it back down, so watch it as it climbs. Once you have then vents set, you shouldn't have to change them. If you do, make small changes and wait 15 minutes or so to see what the effect was.

Have fun! It's a great cooker.

Chit Zilla, that offset must be HUGE cuz it makes that WSM look like a suppository.

didn't even use the water pan did you? did it come with the big pan in the pics also? also a score that it came with the handles. they come in... handy! i scratch a little mark in the door handle to know when the clip is at top center and i got a nice hook to hang the top on so i don't have to keep putting it on the floor. have fun with it!

I guess if I had to have a smoker dropped in my lap, I would prefer a WSM over a BGE.

I think you will not be disappointed. Yes the BGE is top of the line for that type of smoker, but anyone enjoying the BBQ off of the WSM will not know the differnce.

Well, it looks like you got a good deal and it did clean up nice! The handles are a welcome addition and the large pan appears to be Brinkmann charcoal pan. A thermometer in the dome and its cooking! But judging from the split chicks you got fired up on it, it ain't no thang!

The food was good but a brined bird will be much better. Next time.

I'm digging the handles on the sides. Mine is too new for me to dare to drill holes in yet.

ZILLA

I think the holes are already there. You just have to find the right handles.

I don't know who you are anymore . . . can you ever have to many cookers????

If nobody mentioned it, turn the door upside down when you cook. Wilkat taught me that and if he was farking with me it backfired. I couldn't get mine to hold temp until I turned the door over. Now it hummmmmmms along nicely.

Trust me, I started with a WSM look-a-like about 20 years ago... They are solid smokers... But when it's 10* and the wind is blowing, (as much as it pains a stick burner to admit it) I would much prefer a BGE....
