After making repairs to the firebox etc, I took off the bands, sanded them down painted them. Sunday I painted the kamado and the lid. Still lookiing for a 16 inch grate, and some felt for the top and I'll be finished. Smokeydog

Do I need a metal top? I've smoked with the WSM with all top vents open. I assumed the top would be off on the kamado. If I need it I'll shop for one. Also any comments as to the cast iron grate, I have a stone grate. Any help wil be taken. Thanks SD:confused:

No top and you will be all day trying to stabilize your cooking temps as well as trying to do slow & low. Get a chimney daisywheel, you won't be sorry.
