These things normally go for about $50. This one is of a nice size for the GF223 cooking chamber. This should definitely ensure more even cooking temps within my smoker.

I now need to drill a hole and mount it. I will probably place a weatherproof housing over it too.

Hmmm...

Are you gonna mount the fan outside and blow in fresh air or are you going to
suck the hot air and smoke through the fan and back in ?

No a convection fan just circulates the air within the smoking chamber for a more even temp, plus it eliminates hot spots. The motor will be mounted outside of the smoker with the shaft going through the back wall and the fan itself being inside of the cooking chamber.

So will this mess with your up draft?

No not at all. It just circulates the air ensuring equal temps. Here is a link to the one Brian Anding built: http://www.kodakgallery.com/ShareLandingSignin.jsp?Uc=91ztr3zn.20ttpdm7&Uy=-h4nm0&Upost_signin=Slideshow.jsp%3Fmode%3Dfromshare&Ux=0 (http://www.kodakgallery.com/ShareLandingSignin.jsp?Uc=91ztr3zn.20ttpdm7&Uy=-h4nm0&Upost_signin=Slideshow.jsp%3Fmode%3Dfromshare&Ux=0)

One thing that I have noticed with the Stumps is the inequality of temps between the lower rack and the upper rack. The difference is about 30-40 degrees. Obviously, I will now place my Stoker probe on the lowest rack I am using to ensure that my temps are not over my desired ideal temp. I can live with lower temps but higher isn't what I like to toy with. I am a low and slow cooker where some folks go high and fast. Therefore, I hope this works.

WOW That is one nice looking clone. I've got the smaller 222cm and it is a little different but since adding a guru fan it doesn't seem to be as much and not enough to worry about the fan but curious how it works out on the 223. I bet that is nice.

Once I get it installed I will post and let you know how it works.
