Anybody ever use red maple for smoking?

I gained a rick or two due to the big ice storm (lost 2 trees). I've used prunings and a little windfall in the past but never had the nerve to go full bore for the whole smoke with it. Being as its closer to silver maple than sugar maple (soft maple family) I'm a little nervous about it.

Anybody got any input?

Once it gets seasoned...perhaps an opportunity for an experiment. Aren't you the one, long ago on another forum, that said that you can usually eat your mistakes?

The only mistakes I've ever made that I couldn't stand to eat were female.

One thing I have noticed about maple is that it will smoke very dark. I got a maple twice smoked ham once and it was over smoked but not too bitter, just had a bad appearance.
