They are just two drums stacked together. Later this weekend they will form a permanent bond. Ever see a drum that can co 20-30 butts at one time? stay tuned....

After 12 beers, who's gonna hold the ladder while you try to get the lid off?

the plan is to sacrifice one barrel so that I can cut a door that will over lap the hole I cut as a fuel door. Originally I thought I might be able to use the band clamp to tie them together. That idea kind works but is a real balancing act to put together. So.... I will cut the bottom out of both barrels and that way the the lid for the bottom one is actually on the bottom, figure that would make for easy clean up. There is going to be a large door in the top section that will give me access to either the 5 or 6 racks it will hold OR what ever meat I have hanging.

I figure I can leave in the top grate and use it for a side dish of two and also use it for the hooks.

I drill my holes then tape the bolt heads to the drum, then turn it on its side, crawl in and bolt em down!

mount the bolts to the grate instead. Are you talking about bolts for airflow under the grate?

Good idea, now I just need to find a spiral staircase to wrap around them.

Try these guys http://www.bergerclosures.com/home.php I bet they make a ring clamp tha would connect two drums.

I bet they probably would. I am considering welding a sleeve around one barrel at the joint so that they slide together.

Nice! She can clamp my barrel anytime!

That's a great idea with the clamp so you could break them down to get inside.

I didn't even notice there was a barrel in the pic.

I bet you could use a 4" x 1/8" steel flat, heat and form around the drum then weld it to the bottom drum and just slide the top one down on in it. Might need to have a small flat ring below the lip to even things out.

As far as the bolts in the bottom, google "Threadserts" They are like a pop rivit with internal threads. You drill a hole in the drum, insert a threadsert, squeeze the handles and thread in your bolt! I used them in my WSM and drilled out the threads. I put my temp probes in thru these. NUTZ

PS, some people call these NUTSERTS.

Harbor Freight has a threadsert equivalent but way cheaper

yes it is a del monte sticker. They had pineapple juice in them, actually in a liner, so they are brand new inside.

Jerry , I called Kent and told him I had an extra.

I have to go out of town this weekend so I wont get started as soon as I would like. I am kinda thinkin about throwing a propane starter in the bottom. The other thought is to pick up a fireplace grate and use it as a pure stick burner.

It's probably just the resolution of the pic, but her face sure looks jacked up.

I know, I know... "Why are you looking at her face?" or "There's a face in that pic?" :-P

Mark, what are they called? This webpage will not open for me and I searched under Threadserts and nutserts and threaded rivets and nothing came up. Thanks

Finally found them, Threaded Insert Rivets. But they are small in diameter, only goes up to 1/4" so not helpful for the intake holes at the bottom of the drums.

Those rivnuts are for thin metal. You would need minimum 5/8 dia. bolt but more like 3/4" dia. I found them up to 1/2", but are over an inch long.
