Finally delivered. Thinking of putting it into a stainless table like this
http://i24.ebayimg.com/04/i/000/a1/ef/c6b4_2.JPG (http://cgi.ebay.com/STAINLESS-STEEL-WORK-PREP-TABLE-24-x-48-SG-SERIES-NSF_W0QQitemZ290195233200QQihZ019QQcategoryZ55840Q QssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem#ebayphotohost ing)
For those that have eggs, when running at hottest temp how hot does outside get? If I cut the hole I would want to cover the edge to keep from scratching egg. Was thinking of slitting nylon braided food service hose, need to know if hot enough to melt it.

You can put your hand on it, but it's hot. But a lot less hot than other cookers.

Norco, even at lava temps your stainless will be fine. Just leave about a 1/2" gap all the way around. It may discolor slightly if you do a lot of lava cooks, but I can touch mine during "normal" nightly cooks and can lay my hand on it during low & slows.

Congrats on your new egg. I'm building a table for mine out of cedar. Not a pretty table, but a sturdy one. My main concern about using the stainless table would be the support on the lower shelf to carry the weight of the egg.
Please post some pictures once you figure out your table.

Does the plasma cutter get used for this?
Norcoredneck

I will plasma cut hole and want to put something on lip to keep from scratching egg. Most tables are 18 gauge. I waited up (day sleeper) for Fed Ex driver, showes up at noon, picked up daughter at 2:30 then off to dinner for her Birthday. I am going to wait to put it together so i can only have to lift lower shell into table. I bid on one on Ebay with local pickup then checked Costco.com and they have one $129 including shipping. Would retract bid but would not like if someone did it to me so I'll let it ride. If I get outbid I will order Costco.
As for first cook I got cheated at Christmas and did not get Prime Rib so I am going to gamble that you all will give advice on temp control and do Ribroast.
Here is Costco table. Any opinions on it?

the ceramics get pretty hot when doing a 700 degree sear and a sustained 500 degree cook. you might be able to put your hand on it, but you won't be keeping it there for long!
you might want to consider getting a pot lifter device to help you lift and move the egg in and out of the table. www.potlifter.com (http://www.potlifter.com)

use some tubing with a slit cut in it to go around the opening you are going to cut in the table.
BTW, I would go to a restaurant supply that sells old equipment. Or use Craiglist or you local newspaper.
Restaurants are going out of business all the time and you can buy a table for 10 cents on the dollar. Probably much thicker gauge steel too.

I got a large.
the recommended hole for a wood table is 21" diameter and your table is 24" wide... that would only leave 1.5" on the front and the back. is that a problem?
also, how does that table support the bottom shelf? you might need to add something a little more beefy to hold up at least 180 pounds (egg, plus plate setter, plus meat, plus ...)

If you don't mind the Egg sitting up a little higher, you can cut a smaller hole and raise it with some paver bricks.

most likely it will be a problem, looks like the counter is 1.5" thick
so the radius on it is 3/4" this reduces the amount on the from and back even more. Probably will reduce the weight that it can hold.
Congrats!! Looking forward to the pron....

true. i think the large table plans on the bge site take the stone into account though. i've seen a lot of wooden tables where the wood looks way to close to me. i'd want at least 3/4" gap between the wood and the table, but that's just me.
if the egg is too shallow in the table, then a slot for the hinge will have to be cut. i've seen a few tables and built in kitchens where this was a problem and they hacked it up to make the hinge hardware fit.
didn't mean to rain on your table norco... just kinda thinking out loud. one option i really like is to not cut a circle in the middle of a table, but rather a "U" shape so the egg can slide in instead of having to be lifted up, over, then down to insert into the hole.

The measurements from BGE is 17" from base to table top and 21" diameter for the hole as you've said. That doesn't account for a piece of slate, pavers, tile, etc.... based on my experience last week.

i think it does... but i'm not going to argue. i've never made a table and i just recently got this egg in a bge compact table and didn't measure it for the height or hole diameter, but looking at my photos, raising the egg on a stone would just make the gap larger.
anyway... i'm sure mr norco will figure it all out. he seems pretty resourceful.
edit... the big green egg measurement is 15" and it states to use a paver

A few years ago I used the BGE Table plans for one I built for my Imperial Kamado, it was fine until I upgraded to the Spring assist hinge and I needed to raise it @2 1/2" because the new hinge hit the rear of the table. I got this BGE Cypress table used and it must have been for the old style hinge- notice how many farkin step stones I had? With the old style hinge the Egg could sit pretty much flush with the table and looked a lot cleaner.

I got a double stainless sink with sides to hold dishracks for $60.00 on Craigslist. In Cali, everything has to be triple sink now. So people are getting rid of the 2 sink stainless. I put it in my back yard.
