I've spent about 4 hours searching online. I'm going to be making a uds, cept a 85 or 110 gallon. so i need a grate about 24.5-25.5 or 28.5-29.5, and I really dont feel like making it out of expanded steel and a steel band. Just lazy. But I also do not want to pay 30-40 bucks per grate for some cooking racks with legs I found.

I got lucky when I built my 85 gallon. Sears and Kmart sold a 26" grill in the summer. The store had a parts pile and I got extra ones to use on mine.

Just read this thread. That thing freaking rocks. Definitely given me some ideas.

What Guy said. Expanded metal would work. See if you have any metal fabricators in the area that will sell it to you. They can sell it to you for a lot less than the retail stores, unless they try to get you on it.

3 phone calls to local shops and I had my last 4x4 sheet for the same price as the 2x2 sheet at the HD. Even going up to stainless was considerably less.

And they might take some 'Que in trade, if it's the right place.

the materials are no big deal
I work as a mechanic(formerly a custom woodworker, but economy made me get second job) for a major airline. You wouldnt believe the tens of tons of metal materials I have thrown out myself. So I can get all kinds of steel parts and stainless hardware. I would just rather pay twenty bucks for a premade grate, call me lazy.

wow, weber must have use people overseas to watch there email support. I got an answer in fifteen minutes....

"Thanks for choosing Weber. The cooking grate for a 26.5 inch charcoal grill is part # 71201 and that is $41.75. The charcoal grate is part # 73101 and that is $40. Those would be hard to find in stores so you would probably need to order those through our customer service number listed below.

I then sent another email asking for the actual grate size, five minutes later I received an email......24.75" this seems perfect for an 85 gallon barrell.
Unless I can find something near 30" for 110 gal. barrell, looks like I'll be starting an 85 soon.
