my friend gave me this stand for christmas... seems to work very well!
a little dizzy pig tsunami spin on the skin and apple juice in the stand reservoir...
sweet potato, sweet onion, and roasted red sweet pepper made for a nice meal tonight! and of course a couple of insanely bad elf's never hurt anybody!

I like the animated gif... did the chicken fit easily? Weber has a chicken stand I've been thinking about getting to use instead of cans.

Only thing missing is the chicken dance playing in the background. Very nice looking bird, Rick.

Great lookin chicken Rick !
I use one of those roasters too, i especially like that you can take the chick off without havin a can sticking in its butt, makes it a whole lot easyer to handle.
You can also precook potatoes or other veggies in the pan on the grill and add the chicken half an hour later.
For those who need more information, my roaster is made by "Mr Bar-B-Q" and costs about 1/4 of the Weber Unit.

this is only the second one i've done like this myself, so i don't have much experience to tell the difference. the beer can is a little shorter than the second sleeve this holder has and the theory is the liquid in the can will vaporize and add moisture (steam) to the inside chicken cavity and prevent drying. i used apple juice in the stand and i'm not sure if i could taste it or not, might have been the bad elf's *L*

I've tried several liquids from beer to wine to juice to water, and there's VERY little difference among any of them.. I heat up water before putting it in, and just use that, sometimes with seasonings in it, esp herbs.

Actually, i think thewhole "steaming from the inside" thingy is more mith than fact, most of the times i see very little loss of beer or other liquid.
My idea () is, the better results from beer can chicken compared to other whole chicken method comes
from the can and liquid itself, as its most likely way cooler as the air.
That kind of keeps the bird cooler, makes for slower cooking and gives less chance of overcooking it.
I´d like to hear your opinions on my therory. Dont beat me too much please

I do them because I can get more on the grate. I have tried all kinds of different liquids and I can't tell a difference at all.

I fully agree.....but, in saying that, my beer can chicken always truns out great.
I stopped questioning it and just enjoy the results.
