Inspiration provided by Swamp and Leeanza. I had to have me one of these farkin things! So much fun! Weber bottom is whats left of the $10.00 cl purchase for my barrel(guess maybe I should save it for something). Santa brings good toys to our house.
Anybody have any ideas and pics of what I can cook with this thing other than birds? Thanks,
DaChief

I just FOUND a tiss still in the box (garbage pick mod.) that's a great idea, may be trying that this weekend!
Where did you get the extension ring??

Weber sells the kit so maybe you can just ge the ring. I have one and love it for hot cooking. But too many toys and not enough time to use them. The Gasser has IR burner with a smoke box as well and the Rotisserie so easier than pulling out the poor kettle.

RF, your right I did get garlic salt in my stocking! Santa was so smart this year.
You can find the whole thing on Amazon for about $130.00.
Thinkin of doing maybe a whole turkey, but I'm a total rookie when it comes to tying chit up so it dosen't burn.
Maybe a small tri-tip for my next victim?

You could do ribs, just make a small cut every 2nd or 3rd rib I would think, then thread the slab onto the rod.

Probably a stoopid question but I figure I'm here to learn. Do you put the lid on when cooking?
Great looking bird!

Does anyone know if that would fit on a UDS? Looks like it would.

AG & Az the answer is yes! Not stupid at all, as I have posed the very same question before. I had it on during the first part of the cook so as to sink some smoke into it, then left it off at the end so I could baste it.
I bought that kettle on cl for 10 bucks for that very purpose. Accordingly, I have a lidless kettle at my house.

Very nice, Kevin! Pretty much anything you would cook indirect can be done on the Rotisserie! You did use the lid didn't you? I run mine @350* with the lid on, invest in a thermometer in the lid (like a newer Genesis or a Tel-Tru from BBQ Guru) and stick it in the lid vent. I just found a Weber Basket rotisserie (EZ-Que) for my Genesis gasser on CL for $20, I was hoping it would fit the kettle but it's too long. And and to answer jgh's question, it will fit on a drum and I'm currently working a motor and spit rod just for the UDS.
Kevin-Is the counterbalance necessary on the Weber spit rod?
I cut a slot where the rod goes through rotis ring to the motor mount.

Good job Santa, and Brother Fin. Great tool to have. I've rotissed turkeys all the way to rib roasts. The motors are hardy and you will do well. Happy New Year Brother Fin.

Oh man, you guys kill me! Lee thats what I'm talkin about!
I only wanted the thing cuz of what I've seen you two do with it.
Brian, I'm not so sure the counterbalance is absolutely necessary. The directions say to position it, opposite the heavy side of your meat. If I remember correctly, Leeanza said it's not that important.
I feel like I've arrived or something. It's been something I've wanted for along time. Can't wait to fix some sweet q' on it!
Hey SF, I have one of those for my performer and love it, I use it way more than I ever thought I would...I find for chickens you do not need the counter, but for bigger items it is a good idea to use it to keep from overloading the motor..I did a twelve lb turkey for the Holidays and it was outstanding!! Also you can go on YouYube and type in truss a chicken and they have some pretty good step by steps on how to tie up that bird........

I bought an extra long one and it fits my barrel pit great. My Dad is a true believer in using these....says nothing is better than basting in their own juices. I find that it cooks much faster than I had planned. I build a small long fire in my barrel and works great. Mine is battery powered and it has all the power and duration you need and no cords. I can get several cooks out of one set of D cells.

OH Yeah! Game Hens love to spin!! That looks like a Tri-Tip in one of leanza's pics, I may have to give that a try. I've also been trying a little waterpan to keep things moist, thanks to lee's advice. Kev- that Greek stuffed leg of Lamb you did a while back that looked soooo gooood would would go great on the spit!
I scored these motors and spit off CL for $20, I've been running them in the garage for hours to check them out and they are not even warm, the only thing is they are 5/16" hex spit and all my EZ-Ques are 1/4" square. I've got to fabricate a mount for them and they'll be drum bound!

Sounds like the battery powered motor might be nice for a comp too!
