ok this is a dump question here but I'm going to ask any way. If the cooking grate in your smoker is make out of angle iron and expanded metal. Can't rib racks be make out of the same thing, or do you need to use something else? Last dump question of 2007.

Sure they can ...... I think most of them are made from stainless wire for easy clean up.

Thx thirdeye I have some leftover steel and i need some for this event I have coming up in 26 days WOOT!!! What would be the best way to season them?

I would say rub them bad boys down with some oil or better yet bacon grease or lard and toss them in a hot and smokey pit. That should season them real nice.
How bout posting some pics of your rack......................er, wait that don't sound right. Ah heck, you know what I mean.

I made some a couple yrs ago with expanded metal as the base and horse shoes standing on end. I think I was able to get 6 slabs per rack
