Whats the scoop on the infamous "Fire on Ice" contest?
Private gathering? I thought I read something about getting certified.
Do you use judges?
Any info?

get a hold of "Turk" on the bbq forum site... He's the organizer.

I know they had a lot of fun with it last year. if I can fit it into my schedule, I plan on heading up...

Last year it was not a invite only. Anyone could come. They try to get as many certified judges as they can. I would recommend this one if you want to try something a little different. It was a great time.

I emailed a guy named Turk at the BBQ News forum about this and never heard anything back from him. He was out of Florida so maybe wasn't the right Turk.
Any more thoughts?

Its non KCBS and the catagories are chicken, pork ribs, pork sausage and pork loin (no tenderloin). No garnish and all meats may be prepped and seasoned in advance.

Not the right Turk - the one you want is Jeff Turcotte out of Minnesota. He is part of the Bavarian BBQ Boys - if you can't locate him - let me know - I have his email address. I already pinged him up on this and I understand it will be the weekend of Feb. 29. It was a great time, hopefully we can avoid the blizzard this time around!

I certainly love the idea of BBQ contest on a frozen lake...it sounds neat enough...

but then again it is upper 70's right now in Atlanta and some nice winter weather sounds like a good idea...

I used to do a picinic every year the first Sunday after the new year with a group of families, started out with three or four families and by the time I stopped going there had to be well over 20 families spending hours on end having a picinic on a frozen lake. This was born out of the fact the the original three families could not get together for a picinic during the summer so the next best thing was winter.

I think this looks kind of exciting.

And Jorge can your avatar become anymore disturbing?

wow, that looks like places I have been when I used to live in Winnipeg Canada. The ice fishing shack bar, the welcome curling teams sign, brings back some memories.

I still prefer BBQin in San Diego. Dec 15th temp is close to 70. we got it rough out here.

That still looks like a ton of fun though. Maybe one day I will cook at that. My brother lives in St Paul.

I want to party with you cowboy!

Actually, I asked My wife (Char) if I could pull together a cook like this over the New Year Holiday as we weren't going to be traveling. Thought I have the space for several dozen cookers, an out building we could heat and hang in and just have a great time. :-D:eusa_clap:-D

We are now going to San Deigo for New Years to visit a very good friend!

That's just sick. I don't trust ice even if it's 3' thick. I'm sure that the ice was tested and that it was safe, but I have a fear of ice.
I've had to pull too many people out from under ice that they thought was plenty thick. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!

I finally got in touch with Turk and they are getting the website set up and will notify me when it's ready and I'll pass it on. They are also researching motel availability for those who are not going to sleep on a iceflow (me!).
I'm going to judge so I better start praying for goodish weather.

I don't consider myself a huge risk taker. I pulled my truck and my 20' camper out on the ice last year - granted, it was only a 100 or so yards off shore. Yeah, there should be plenty of ice! We are off to a GREAT start as far as making ice goes. This is the first time in quite awhile that you should be able to drive on most lakes up here by Christmas. I have already seen ATVs out and I think some of the resorts have already started pulling ice houses, or they are very close to. That being said, ALWAYS check with the local bait shop for conditions.

I'm thinking an international team of Carbon Toe, Browser and myself should make the journey. Trouble is we would have to build something to cook on once there.

Let's find out what the other two think. Plenty of time to book a flight for around 160.00 each way.

Just think fellas we could win the longest distance award.

That contest is 4 hours drive for me. 30 miles from my wife's family. I'll most likely be able to hook you blokes up with something to cook on. This could be a blast.
