Drum metal is almost too thin - you would be running it on high all the time to hold temps. But it might be worth a shot.

Two things you would have to address immediately:
1. Someplace for your fly ash to go that isnt going to turn it into sludge with the grease.
2. A good grease drain to get that out of the pit to avoid a grease fire.

doesnt it defeat the purpose of having fat drip onto hot coals?

Auto fed, vertical cooker... sounds like an FEC.

sorta like figuring out how to put a Ferrari engine in a Hyundai? Seems interesting on the surface, but why re-invent he wheel. Just as Mr. Ferrari perfected the Italian sports car so has Eddy perfected the pellet pit (up to this point).

Are there pellet feeders available to buy?

Traeger might allow you to buy their system. I know you can buy it part by part (expensive!!!)

Bob @ BBQ Bonanza is talking with louisiana grills about being allowed to sell thiers. he already has customers wanting to buy the "Tailgator" model, and strip the pellet system off of it for use in other cookers. Basically gets them a pellet system to bolt on to anything for $500.
