I was looking for something new to try and came across come turkey legs so I decided to try some Disney style legs.

I followed this recipe.

https://amazingribs.com/tested-recipes/turkey-recipes/disney-style-smoked-turkey-legs-recipe

I also tossed a chicken breast into the mix as an experiment.

On the Weber Kettle, indirect heat, hickory chunks.

So they are cured?
What did they taste like?

If they haven't changed the recipe, it tastes like salt. And liquid smoke. I'm firmly convinced they sell these to cause you to buy their insanely over priced drinks. It's usually hot at the theme park and you are already thirsty. Eat one of these and you can't drink enough water. At least for me.

You know how people always advise to soak a corned beef to remove some of the salt? These things could improve from being soaked.

Just my opinion.

First those Turkey Legs look great, just like at Disney!!!

Being a Disney Nut, and also a BBQ cook, I only ate them once at the park; they are no different than a "salt lick", and yes, to sell drinks (water 3.25 a bottle).
I too could not drink enough water after eating to get the salt out of my mouth.

They are cured for 24 hours, any more and they get salty.

As far as taste, they were smokey and sweet. The texture is similar to ham.

This was the first time I made these so I wasn't sure what to expect, but they were very good. I did rinse them before smoking, that might have reduced the saltiness that some commented about.

... and not a beer to be found in the Magic Kingdom which was a problem for me and Andy!

I followed the directions in the article and didn't find them to be salty at all. These had more sweet than salt.

If you cook them at home, beer is not a problem
