View Full Version : Baby back ribs 3 ways

I got some new rubs in and wanted to try them out on some baby backs. I am doing them 3 ways.

1. Johnny Trigg's recipe that I got from his cook school. This will be my control.
2. I am trying a combination of some of kosmos rubs.
3. The 3rd is the new rub called sweetness from eat bbq. I really like his zero to hero rub, so I have high hopes for it.

The picture shows them as 1 in the front to 3 in the back.

I had originally planned on trying some new glazes on them too, but I don't think that I am going to do that. I will probably just use Johnny's glaze on all of them to only change one variable.

I was going to try blues hog 50/50 mix one one rack and killer hogs the BBQ sauce on the other, but I don't think that I am. The killer hogs sauce smells really strong of liquid smoke. I am serving them to some friends and don't want to try something new on them.

Almost time to wrap. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191026/2e79395814cf04a0765b5c6ba233f17a.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191026/7933fb9c1707e7c98109405df1e42e26.jpg

Here are the results. All were really good. I could not tell a massive difference between them all. Some people really liked the kosmos and some really liked Johnny's. I probably still liked Johnny's the best. I would eat any of them again https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191026/08e746d1403435ccc74dc95f04217082.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191026/81f98f5dcbd89a0af43e8e7e44a2d721.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191026/595cc885846ed0f7fd95af9dc91b6ec9.jpg

The pictures are in order of toothpicks. 1 is Johnny's, 2 is kosmos, and 3 is eat bbq. Color is almost the same on all 3. Super tasty. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191026/4526fc5cb2988b9509ebfc22beb53320.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191026/4bff86bd0e1474413fc31d3d0d699b17.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191026/e058dfe37a717780e83bac1c3f86ac82.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191026/11357791a19ccc247fad6ed7ef803a64.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191026/ef790a2e0401aee4e460c80fcd2bc422.jpg

They all look great, most of those rubs probably have similar ingredients this the difference would be minimal, all things being equal....

They look great, and since we eat with our eyes, I should be full, but I feel like I could eat a little more. Nice job!

Thanks. I hadn't made baby backs in years. My brother always says that my ribs look dark. I can't ever get them that bright red color, but they weren't as dark as they seem in the pictures. The lighting in my BBQ shed isn't the greatest either. Anyway, they tasted good

They look really yummy!!

Could it be that the subtle differences in the rubs were masked by the sauce?

Could it be that the subtle differences in the rubs were masked by the sauce?Sorry for the late reply, but yes. The glaze definitely is the predominant flavor that you taste. The rubs seem to be more of an undertone.
