Cleaned all my smoker toys this weekend - and thought I'd share an exhaust modification I did years back and not sure anyone else does it this way. To get the exhaust at grate level I've seen (and tried ) the gigantic 90 degree vent elbow - but in the little old Brinkmann, it ate up valuable real estate. So I took a Dryer exhaust vent "periscope" and cut it down . It takes up less space, and it works just fine moving the air. I've had that Brinkmann for 25 years now, and I know how to work it - which is a long night :) But it taught me how to control a stick burner and can still turn out a fantastic brisket - but you have to "suffer for your craft" on it. This is just a FYI "mod" for those still playing with these old war birds. Whenever I want to suffer for my craft, I fire this one up and enjoy making it work. https://www.bbq-brethren.com/forum/picture.php?albumid=1213&pictureid=12862http://https://www.bbq-brethren.com/forum/picture.php?albumid=1213&pictureid=12863

The vent I cut up was about $8, can't remember if was Lowes or Home Depeaux - but it looking something like this (photo) and I had to take some sheet metal sheers to it and do some creative adjusting and didn't have much use for the leftovers. It does not restrict air and as a matter of fact since it is wide it pulls from a greater area - good luck and happy cooking

Nice mod and I have had two of those smokers and should of kept one for small cooks . I never did that mod but had five steel tuning plates in the bottom I spaced apart and go 5 degree temps side to side . I will find another one of these days and people do not realize what they have in a small quality smoker .

Got one and still love it. $350 bucks I think (man, I'm getting old). First stick burner I ever bought. Don't get to use it as much as I used to, but I'll probably never get rid of it. Can't get good 1/4 inch steel like that in cookers for that kind of price anymore. Never modded, but this seems like a pretty good idea.
