My Neighbor saw me putting Brisket in Fantasia and walked over.
I siad " Kroger has briskets for $1.47/lb". He Says "Ya but they have Too much Fat but I went up there and All the Briskets were $25-$28 / 15 -18 lbs." He has an Older Bandera and Smokes about 6 Times a Year........ He likes to buy 4 at 10-12 lbs and Smoke all 4 at once and Freeze 3 of them Whole then reheat in Oven for a cpl hours once a month or so. . I said since you Smoke them and Freeze them - just Buy 2 Larger Ones and cut them down after cooking and then Freeze. He said Nah, he don't like to do that. He doesn't like tending a Fire so he does 4 at a Time every cpl months. I said get a Charcoal Cooker and you don't have to tend it. He said "No, not interested in Spending $ on One and I’ve been doing it this Way for Years".

*had Academy picked it Up* ??

Did their deal fall through? $2000.00 is sort of steep. (ok- might be a nice weekend for for some of you- but big bux for the likes of me)

oh well, will stick to my 16, 30 and 55 gallon drums until the next (cheap!) thing comes along.

I have one of the cheap Kroger briskets on my 30 gallon- they are cut weirder than hell. Possibly was a OTJ training project for up and coming butchers. Very weird cut and lots of fat.

Went and watched the Granbaby’s Soccer Game and got Home - Running 300* steady. Gotta set the Pitmaster IQ at 325-330* to run 300* - don’t bother me None to set it a lil High as long as it Holds Pretty Steady. Size of Pit - set point varies (some Folks report it's Low, some High, some say spot On)- just gotta learn what works on your cooker.

Yep, my lazy butt was up at 3am firing up my LSG to cook one of the briskets I got at Kroger, too. Did a St Louis slab of ribs from Kroger, too. The brisket turned out just fine: not fall over the finger tender, but still good enough. The ribs, not so much. I've done Kroger ribs before, and I think I've had better results overall with the full spares I get at Sam's.

Need to come down South of Ft Worth and go to HEB and get some of the Smithfield Fresh Pork St Louis cut ribs. That is all I will cook now days. Great pork flavor and they are not enhanced with a brine.

All I can tell you Smitty is, "You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him think."
It's OK, you enjoy doin yours the way you like it.

I'm curious about stacked cooks like yours. Does the drippings from the ribs change the flavor of your Brisket any?
I know they show a sundry of stuff in the ad pictures, but it never made sense to me. (And the food in the ad's is plastic anyway.)

Looks great to me! :icon_smile_tongue:

Mostly curious. I have two Masterbuilts that are highly modified for smoking right. But I rarely cook in them, and haven't ever stacked when cooking.
So was curious about the ribs over the brisket.
Enjoy! :icon_smile_tongue:

Glad to see my trim job isn’t all that different than yours. I think I lucked out. Two big pockets of hard fat, but everything else looked pretty good.

Will do the brisket on the PBC and breaking in my Home Depot $99 WSM with some chicken and sausage. The plan is to take everything off in time to eat for 7.

We’ll see!

I had to try that as well when i seen it ( i love deviled eggs) I thought it was fantastic. I hate shopping at Walmart because out of the 20 self checkout machines, less then 10 are ever working so the lines are unbearable. Otherwise i would probably buy that stuff anytime we are in the mood for potato salad.
