Lurk around here more than I post, but too excited not to share. First cook coming this Sunday....3 racks of spares and a boston butt...thinking I'm going to use Cherry for wood.

You have enough wood there to get you through a few cooks. Congrats, post some cooks and get rid of the matchlight once and for all.

That woodpile doesn't look new, so what were you cooking on before the Shirley?

Thanks!

I did! With a 3 year old running around, one on the way, and lots of kiddos always around, figured it was worth the money. Obviously she still gets hot, but it really cuts down on the number of skin searing spots

That woodpile doesn't look new, so what were you cooking on before the Shirley?

Believe it or not, I built that shed and filled it last summer as I patiently waited (lol) for my number to get pulled for my cooker build. Kept me busy and sane. Got about a half cord of sugar maple for free off craigslist, got about a half cord of apple from a neighbor that had (3) 50+ year old apple trees come down (boy was that a nightmare to split by hand!)... bought 1/4 cord of Cherry, 1/4 Cord of Hickory, and a 1/4 cord of Red oak. Also got a few splits of White oak and some Mesquite....ready for some experimenting!

Admittedly, before this, all I had was a, gulp, electric smoker lol! I had become so frustrated by it, I stopped smoking for several years...until two years ago, a coworker sparked my interest again. I started looking at stick burners, thought about just going with a OKJ...then was looking at Langs and then ended up here lol. It snowballed a little out of control, but I have zero buyers remorse. I like to buy the best I can afford and being in my early 30's, I wanted something that would last a long long long time and never need replacing...and thats exactly what I got. My kids will have something to use long after I'm gone (I hope they are in to it lol)

Couple more picks of the wood shed! Man was it a labor of love lol. That one pick has some of the last few pieces I had to split of that apple from my neighbor
