Don't let the Maple Leaf on the bag deceive you. It's made from a blend of beech, maple and birch.

I would imagine charcoal made from maple leaf would be pretty harsh. But i bet the smoke ring on your meats would be insane.

I don't know whether that's the same brand I used to get in MA (also called charbon de bois, but in a white and green bag). It was good, reliable lump.
