The plastic wheels throw me off and the front loading fire box.

What is it worth in this shape?

$50 if the gauge of steel is thicker. That’s a lot of reconditioning to do. Everything looks about the same though, including side loading fire box.

Thanks, I just noticed the fire box latch is on the front side. Do the older Bandaras have a larger cook chamber than the ones made today? I just bought a new one but it is sitting 400 miles away so I wont be seeing it for a few months

Thanks,

Bert

Is that piece on the bottom shelf a fire box? I got a few more pictures and it looks like the wheels may be small steel ones

Still curious it the older bandaras were larger than the made in China ones today.

The size is about the same but the gauge of steel went down, I believe. The newer ones have so much flex, especially if the fire is roaring above 350 in the firebox. Makes the chamber door harder to shut when the wall on the firebox side flexes out.

That is a heat diffuser.
It sits in the bottom of the cook chamber with the smaller holes next to
the firebox opening.
Its supposed to spread the heat more evenly through the chamber.

yea I had to look at it a few times to figure out it was a diffuser. I have never seen one for a Bandera.

The air intake slide is in rough shape and most likely will need to be replaced. Lots of rust, but still salvageable. Still don't know if i want to take the ride.

Thanks for all the input.

Wish it was 5 years ago, I would have given you mine since you're so close.

I gave it away, and that brother was never to be seen here again.

You're close, we can arrange a cook this summer if you're game.

I bet it was in nicer shape too.

That is just not right.

I just may take you up on that.

There was one up on the north side last year on CL I went back and forth with the guy on price and time to pick up but never came together. It was nicer than this and not as old.

If he still has it Friday night, I will probably own it Saturday if he want to trade. I just did not want to drive that far to get it and he says his truck wont make 30 miles to meet me.

Some caveats to look for

The Bandera firebox lid was rolled steel and you to "flake" constantly.

After many years of use, this would have reduced the diameter of the firebox steel considerably.

Can't tell from the pics if this was just non use, or also use and age, which would make the firebox steel extremely thin

Wondering what the grates look like

I had like 10 porcelain covered shelves for mine.

Really miss those as they cleaned up to new almost every time.

Looks a lttle wavy at the bottom of the air intake. Probably have to weld in a piece to save the Oki Joe

Doesn’t look like the original ones. Sheet metal looks a little thinner.

Really!?! I thought it was just my paint flaking off but maybe the steel is coming off too. I added 1/4” plates around the walls. Hopefully that helped some.

Thats what I was thinking. Although its tough to really tell from pictures. the door tag and SN look like original though.

The small wheels and the leg bolted to the fire box look strange to me.

Been emailing him back and forth all week, agreed on a price then he tells me this morning he said he is waiting on another guy who is like 5 hours away.

He also confirmed that has plastic wheels.
