I like that it's been well used, lots of character. I see mint condition ones pop up from time to time but they don't really have the appeal to me one like that does.

I love that! Rudolph's Market and Sausage Factory in Dallas has three of those that are at least fifty years old and concave from being shaved down.

Great find!

My grandfather made one of those for my mom. It was approximately 30" square.
Used to sit on it while my dad cut my hair. We forgot to clean it off one time and Mom didn't notice until too late while making a pie crust on it. She didn't eat the pie - but we did.

Very cool. I used one back in my butcher days and it, too, was concave from the many years of use. They are great pieces.

My scrolling through Craigslist still have not yielded anything cool besides a cheap $300 trailer. What’s the restoration process, just walnut oil? I have a big old butcher block that is currently a wrestling mat for all my spices.

We had one like that when I was growing up (or supposed to be growing up anyway...). I have always wanted one of those, so I know what you mean. The only thing I'd want before that is room to put one!

Nice score, Paul! :clap2:

not sure about what to condition it with.... Maybe someone will chime in...... I got to get it out of the shop Monday before someone uses it for a welding table

Paul might want to try food grade linseed oil...its non-toxic and food safe.

Home Depot and Lowes sell cutting board finishes, that might be a place to start. A good scrubbing and a light hand sanding would give you a base to begin with.

I feel I can speak for many here, you already have several different "man caves", based on the pictures you post.

That's a really nice block, Paul. Ones like that are getting harder and harder to find. To finish, I would start with a good washing with soap and water. Sand with a very fine paper and apply several coars of boiled linseed oil. Good luck.

Nice blocks like that are getting really hard to find and when I do, they sure are expensive. You really scored with that find.

Don't over sand and as others have said, a good stabile food grade oil will go a long ways towards restoring it.
