I was cleaning cupboards of old dented 5 year past date cans. I really meant to eat that 30 gram sugar 75 carbs of chicken pot pie soup- before May 2013. Didn’t happen. I did find two cans of crushed pineapple that Bride intercepted. They weren’t out but she thought the roll I was on they were going. #8 Wagner and a #7 Griswold are in the oven working pineapple upside down cake magic.

I know can goods will last a long time past due dates. But if you inspect the 3-5 year past date rims often you’ll see a speck of rust under the rim or a slightly swollen can. I’m going to quit stockpiling- unless a perceived national emergency.

Best 50¢ I ever spent — rusty vintage Dutch oven at a swap meet. Suspect it's vintage Belmont, but have not been able to ID. It's a 7 quart and it cleaned up real nicely with a little steel wool and elbow grease. The only markings are "Classic" stamped on the bottom in a stylized script, and it has the smoother finish of older castings.

I don't have any of my pictures on anything that is hosted to share them, but that's about all I cook on any more. I started acquiring some Griswold and Wagner pieces several years ago and have been adding to the collection here and there ever since. Last year I inherited some pieces when my grandmother passed away, we know she bought them sometime post-WWII but before '53 and we think a couple of pieces were old then... still doing research on them.

My go to is a typically a Griswold #7 (701B) if I'm just cooking for me and a Wagner 13 7/16" skillet if I'm cooking for the family (at least I've been told its Wagner, I'm not sure really... it's big, it's heavy, it's made in the USA, and I use it for EVERYTHING)

I have an old Wagner #7 that I got when my grandmother passed. It was so well used and cared for that I'd swear it was smoother than a baby's... Smoother than silk. I love pulling it out and using it whenever I can - it brings back memories of me and Grammie hanging out in the kitchen in the early morning before anyone else got up.
