cookinpellets.com perfect mix and BBQer's Delight Hickory and Cherry. Bear Mountain and a few others are also good, but I can get Cookinpellets.com easily since the are in Racine, WI.

BBQer's Delight Hickory and Cherry mixed 1/2 and 1/2. I don't know if it makes any difference, but it sure smells good when it's a smokin'.

Been using Q Pellets since my local mom and pop place has them. I do a mix of Pecan an Cherry at 50/50 for smoking. I use hickory when cooking at high temps since it burns hotter.

Unless things have changed, B&B is re-branded BBQ Delight. They are a good pellet, but I have tried several brands and LJ IMO is better.

Lumber Jack Char Hickory seems to be very nice. I have only tried Traeger Hickory and Pit Boss Hickory for comparison and these seem way better.

+1 on cookinpellets perfect mix. Also liked their 100% hickory. They didn’t offer the plain cherry at the time but I think they do now.

My Walmart doesn’t have them........

Is that because TX Wally Marts are too smart. I think that may be true of OK WMs as well. I will admit it my weakest of moments I have thought about a pellet popper - probably too much Shiner or Tito’s ....

Tried bbq delight, cookin pellets, some pit boss things and prefer lumberjack to all (more ash, but more smoke imo).

I use Pit Boss Competition blend mostly in my Yoder, simply because they are easy to obtain at Menard's and Walmart. I've used Traeger too, but prefer the Pit Boss. I don't have room to store half a pallet of LJ.

BBQ delite rebranded at Acadamy Sports as B & B works great for me. 50% Hickory and 50% Cherry blended. Cooking Pellets were OK but 40 pound bags difficult to manhandle. Didn’t like Traeger at all, currently burning those in my fire pit!

BBQr's Delight Peach and Pecan. I have tried other brands but found these create the least ash in the 1-star and the flavor is always spot on.

Lumber Jack, cookin pellets and A-Maz-En pellets are all that I will.

Fave flavor combos are as follows....

Beef= lumberjack supreme blend (oak, hickory, cherry) it's getting hard to find so I'll have to start mixing my own or just go 100% Oak

Pork= cookin pellets black cherry

anything that flies= 100% oak and sometimes maple

Things that swim= 100% alder I'm not a fan of much more than a hint of smoke on birds or fish.

Also had good luck with Lumberjack. they are my go to. I did just pick up Pit Boss because they were less than half the price, so we'll see how they do as well.

In all the years that I messed with a pellet cooker I tried several brands of pellets. I was never able to discern the difference between the species of wood. Hickory tasted the same as apple, apple tasted the same as alder so on and so forth. Although the claim that pellets contain all natural wood I believe because of the way they're manufactured they don't burn like splits or wood chunks. The fire in a pellet burner has to burn extremely hot in order to burn the compressed pellets which is why in my opinion people say they get a light smoke flavor from their pellet grills. The pellets contain very little moisture if any which I think also contributes to a light smoke flavor.
Try putting a drop of water on a pellet and watch it expand to the point of sawdust.
To each their own but I gave up on pellet cookers long ago.
I know I'm going to get the guys that tell me I should have tried some yabba dabba controller or put it in smoke mode for 16 hours then increase the temps etc..

How many cooks/smokes can you get out of a bag? Smoking at 250-275.

Depends on the pellet, cooker, length of cook, and weather.

Generally somewhere between 1 to 2 lbs an hour. Larger cookers are generally closer to the 2.

I use Lumberjack since I can get them locally. I've tried a bunch of different ones, the only one I didn't care for was the OHC, way too much ash. I like the MHC blend, 100% pecan, 100% Cherry. Lately been using the 100% Maple.

I imagine my FEC-100 on a full hopper (20lbs) would run for a solid day or more. The insulation is amazing once it is up to temp.

So far i like lumberjack the best tried Tngrilling pellets competition blend and cleaned it today after a clean start and a long burn cooking 3 buts monday nite, burn pot full of ashes worst i have seen it. The pitboss pellets didnt leave that much for the whole bag lol, got to admit pleasant smell while burning ang good smoke flavor. Going to buy some mesquite and see how that works out

With the 800* insulated cabinet, it uses about .5#/hr at 250*, so yes well over a day.

^^^ Yep what they said. FEC's are very frugal with pellets. I never actually measured how long a hopper will go. But I'll usually get a good 8-10 cooks of various types, maybe more.

Lumberjack hickory is my favorite.

Probably tried 10 other brands/flavs
When I get one I don't like, mixing in Apple helps...or using for higher temp cooks like pizza.

Buddies traeger has always produced great food, but he sticks with the 'traeger pellets only' policy. I think their pellets are overpriced, and also said to be 'flavored'

I run Lumberjack pellets bc they burn very well, give a deep smoke ring, and also are readily available locally. I always use a mix of 25% each hickory, cherry, maple, and pecan.

Yep, unless they have changed them in recent years, their "hickory" pellets don't contain any actual hickory wood. They are "flavored" with hickory oil. Whatever that is.

I've tried a few different pellets but my favorite is Pacific Pellets in championship blend or gourmet blend. I've been using them for the last 2years and I can't find a reason to switch brands. I get them for 9.99 for a 20# bag at sportsmans warehouse.

I went and picked up a few bags of lumberjack. It was awesomely shady. Email a guy on craigslist, get his cell number, arrange a meet, drive to his house, sit and wait. A good 3 hours were killed for me to pick up 4 bags of pellets.

Food tasted the same as the Pit Boss Comp blend that I can get at the Lowes 8 minutes away.
