I want to try hanging ribs but I didn't want to spend the money on buying a hanger, so I decided to make one. I am in it less than $20. I already had the grating from a previous smoker project and the hooks cost $13 from Amazon. $5 for rebar and I ready to try hanging meat. I need to clean it up a little, but it should hold some meat. I will post some pictures of it's maiden voyage. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180616/36b9172748b02c73d7af3e690c3b16ab.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180616/d6cb8d46212f8d0678137b3c1c1a8b76.jpg

What a fantastic idea. I’ve been looking for something to make for my 14” wsm and this would work good. Thanks.

It all looks terri - terri - terribly delicious.
May I ask why you would hang the ribs as I see you have enough grate space?
I could see if you needed to do 10 racks or so.....

I could see if you needed to do 10 racks or so.....I like trying different cooking techniques. The ribs are supposed to cook a little differently when hung. It gave them a different tecture and a little different taste. They were really delicious.

By hanging ribs the fat and connective tissue permeate through the meat longer as it renders... moister & tastier ribs.

Does anyone with a WSM 14 know if this mod would work? Would it provide enough distance to hang without the end of the ribs getting too close to the charcoal? Thanks!

Here is a hanging rack I made for my Trail Embers Smoker. It has a domed lid like a Weber WSM so something like it could be made for your 14 in WSM. On my smoker the top ring is about 1/2 way up inside the lid. I like it because on my 22.5 smoker I can hang racks of ribs and use the modified grill grate I made under to cook on the grate also.

How many half chickens do you guys think I could fit on this thing? I am going to try 4 tomorrow and see what kind of room I have in it.

I do not see why four half chickens would not fit on your rack. Looks like you should have plenty of room. Please let us know how the cook comes out.
By the way the hanging rack looks great.

I am doing a test run today for a bigger cook on the 4th. I was hoping to get 10 halves in it. I think I can get them to fithttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180701/d1e96dcde141539f00a61c82a1a675e2.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180701/5ae5521c3ebfb0e8232738ea1d2a2708.jpg

Took longer than I thought. I was thinking it would be around 2 hours at 275 degrees. Took almost 3 hours. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180702/bad63a23111c64f4f54242d4cc73f23d.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180702/536a183fffd345d45b7c591045d94012.jpg
