I may have the need for a large-ish capacity (at least 12-14 racks of ribs) heavy duty (not a cheapie) offset cooker soon, do any of the top manufacturers build and keep them in stock, possibly through a distributor? I could wait a few weeks once I get the green light, but not a full 12-14 weeks or longer.

Bubba Grills in Georgia usually has some built waiting for a new home. Good quality and easy to run. Shipping to socal may be expensive though.

That used Klose trailer seems like a 'no brainer' for your situation and geographic location, assuming the price point is acceptable.

Johnson smokers, Gator Pits, Klose, etc. generally have some available without long waits. Then there are resellers like the St. Louis BBQ store to consider.

What is your price point and are you willing to drive or ship?

This guy stocks Yoder smokers. I don't think he ships and he is a bit of a drive for you though.

Thanks everyone. Smitty, yours does look perfectly suited to what I need...I should know the status in the next 2 weeks if it's still around by then.

As far as shipping costs go, as long as the total cost is within my budget I can ship.

I would say horizon would be a good bet as well as Bass Pro and larger vendors stock them

My buddy is getting a meadow creek from his dad soon and those look to be built really well also, and I believe they have short lead times.

Humphreys makes a great and heavy duty offset! Insulated and un-insulated fire box models.
