I've been seeing a lot of cooks with the Weber kettle vortex and decided I needed one. I picked up a tray of wings from Sam's the other day and had a fresh new bag of Oakridge BBQ Habanero Death Dust in the cabinet so I was gonna have some heat in my life tonight. The grill was running around 475* and they were done in about 35 minutes. No issues scorching the sugar in the rub using the vortex since it was 100% indirect, but I still got nice crispy skin.

I used Weber briquettes and a small chunk of cherry in the middle for an extra kick. I also went maybe a bit heavy on the HDD tonight and the wings were fire. A good balance of sweet to counter the heat, but they got my attention regardless. If you like spicy food, you gotta try the HDD, it's one of my favorite rubs when I want to spice things up.

I think I'm gonna have fun with this little vortex thing...already planning to do some thighs this weekend. :thumb:

Nice the Vortex turns the Kettle into an awesome chicken parts cooking machine imo.

I see all sorts of fun in your future. You've had a great start with some really nice lookin' wings! (You're killing me, as we just ate, and now I want a couple of those wings to top it off before I rack out).

That Vortex has been tops for me.

Chicken, steak, potatoes, asparagus... you name it.

If you're doing thighs this weekend.... oh, man... perfect. That's now my favorite cut of chicken, and method of cooking.

Keep the Pr0n flowin', man.

Those wings look great. I agree on the HDD. I love that stuff on wings. I even put it on my last brisket cook mixed with Black ops. Gave it a nice little kick. The vortex has been my go to for wings and this weekend I’m gonna do some kettle fried chicken using it. Great tool for any indirect cooking. Congrats.

Got a couple slabs of spares thatll hit the Shirley tomorrow, I plan to use a rib rub cut with a little bit of HDD. Looking forward to see how they turn out. Seems like a pretty versatile rub.
