I ordered a rotisserie for my UDS. I want to mount the unit at the top of the drum which means I wont be able to use the flat lid for now. I plan to modify an old Weber kettle lid later.
Question - Can I still cook chicken, duck, roast, etc over the drum with no lid? Will there be enough heat? I've never used a rotisserie but I'm assuming an open lid will give me a real flaming fire from the basket. Too much heat? Thanks.

it works and the live flame brings new dynamics to the cook, I have since lowered the spit down on to the barrel, no ring.

That's great news. I'm really not in a hurry to modify that old Weber lid. I'm happy to hear it's not necessary. Thanks, tom b.

That looks like the rotisserie I bought. OneGrill 13watt heavy duty w 1/2in spit rod. I'm planning to do a duck soon.
