Built a temporary pit yesterday at my dad's place. Old school cinder blocks. First time I've ever made one or cooked on one. 3 butts and a brisket (separated) are on now. I'll post a pic thread of the meat later. Hoping to beat the massive thunderstorms coming our way later today.

Haha deal! I'll be there in fall of 2019 to pick up my build, so maybe I can do one then 😆

Looking good my friend!!
Are you going to shovel in the coals from time to time to keep the heat even?

That was the original plan but we ran out of time to build the chimney for the pre burn. I ended up building a nice e coal bed then shoveling in lump oak charcoal and kiln dried mesquite mini logs to keep up the temp. I would leave the hole open while they caught and was able to keep the smoke at a passable standard. When we cook again I will insist on a chimney to shovel in live coals.

It's 3/4" , #9 thick expanded metal (carbon steel). Dad bought it and he got the overlapping style. He says he prefers that, where as I wish he had gotten the flattened version.4x8 sheet was $80 or so but depending on location it could vary.

I just made a short video showing the pit and giving a description... However I'm out in the boonies and can't get it to upload right now. When we go to town later I'll try to upload it then.

I like the overlapping style as well. Has more strength than the flat (cut) style.

Made a short video going over the details of the cinder block pit I built at my dad's house. It's just temporary for now and will be moved and made permanent later. Shoot me any other questions you may have and I'll try to answer them!
