How do you fire up your gravity Fed Smoker. ?

Do you leave charcoal in the chute and fire up with a torch.?

Do you keep chute empty and dump a burning chimney of charcoal in and then fill the chute.?

Leave chute full and put starter cubes on firegrate to get charcoal burning.?

Other.?

A handful of Stump chunks - basically shredded stringy woody debris. Then mixed hardwood lump and wood chunks in the chute. I use a Mapp torch to light then let the controller take over.

Hit the grate with a torch or weed burner and then put my fan at full speed to Stoke the fire. Fan blows so hard it up to temp in a few minutes. It's not an atc, just the fan part. Take it off when up to temp

Full chute, chute door open to let it draft and hit it with a weed burner until the coals have a decent start (3 or 4 minutes usually work). Button it up and turn on the IQ.

Full chute, Two Weber starter cubes in the ash pan with the chute top open. Once the cubes go out, close the chute and firebox door and turn on the guru.

Full chute. Top lid open. Weed burner from below to get the bottom chunks going. Close it up and let Digi-Q do its job.

*lump charcoal (Rockwood) in chute
*completely open up chute door
*place fire brick in ash pan and set 2 weber cubs on it and light the cubs
*leave firebox slightly open and ball valve wide open
*wait until cubs are just about completey burned up and remove fire brick

Do you mean a box fan with the door open or blowing through the ball valve?

Full chute of charcoal
MAP torch to light from bottom. 2-3 mins each middle, left & right side between grate & charcoal.
All doors wide open until I feel heat rising from top of chute
Close chute & cook chamber doors but leave firebox door open until door therm hits about 150
Close firebox door & let Pitmaster IQ take over.

I usually fill the chute and torch it but starting with a chimney full of lit coal works just as good

I leave chute door open and put a burner out of a fish fryer down below.

I will start with the torch lighting in the chute with the chute lid open. Let run for about 5-10 minutes hook up the controller and then give a quick torch to the grates and walls for a preheat.
