View Full Version : What’s this Lang 48 worth?

I am probably going to go look at this smoker and was curious what y’all thought. It’s a 2009 that hasn’t been used in about 5 years. For some reason it only has the bottom rack and never had a top. It needs a lot of attention as far as I can tell. I assume that all Lang’s have always been a reverse flow!! It’s that true? And lastly, what do you think it’s worth? Thanks in advance.

Also I know the trailer bearings have never been greased so it will need that but I would hope it would be ok for the 150 mile trip home. I will take new wheels in case those are dry rotted.

Any price that I would give is nothing more than a SWAG, so I’ll wait for others with much more experience to chime in for an answer. I will say that it looks like a fun project and I’d grab it for the right price. Looks like a little elbow grease and TLC will yield a wonderful smoker for you.

I would use 50% of new as your starting point. Adjust up for low availability in your area. Adjust down for condition.
I paid $950 for a 4yr old lightly rusted (not as bad as this one) 36D patio that went for $1600 new. This doesn't look that bad generally. You can call Lang and order a top shelf and have a welder locally install. I'd go see it for sure. Surface rust is easy to grind with a wire wheel and paint. I will see if I can find the thread I shared on my restoration.

There is one pic that looks like a broken weld, and can't tell if there is a hole at the firebox. You need to check that closely. If you have a welder you can work with locally I bet it could be repaired....but I'd make a much lower offer then.

I was thinking $600 to $700 depending on the condition of the FB, can't tell what is under the ash in the FB.

I am thinking the same thing and always start low and a little bit of cleaning and a stripping wheel will take that rust off and re-paint .

I am pretty sure that’s where the firebox has a full penetration weld. I know a damn good welder so if anything needs to be done that’s not a problem.

That 36D looks good!! That’s what I initially was going to buy but I saw this and figure I would inquire. Chances are it will never go anywhere where I will need the trailer but it could be a plus. And I feel for sure I could get my money back if I get it at $700. Then again I could just go buy a new 36D and not have to worry about rehab. I really don’t mind the work though.

If you have a good welder, I'd do the 48 on the trailer.

My welder is the best around. I am pretty sure he could weld a d**k on a snowman!!

The older models had a shelf on legs that set on the lower grate. 2795$ new, if you get it for 1000$ or less you stole it. Clean it up use it until your Shirley arrives and put it on Craigslist for 1500$.

I think thats just an illusion. There does not look to me there was anything welded to the firewall. Theres square tubing supporting the grate. They just overlapped the exapanded metal to touch the firewall so theres not a gap. The way the rust line on the firewall is gives the illususion there was a slide rack rail or something that broke loose. I dont thnk there is.

He's in Mobile- the fact that there is a decent used smoker within 150 miles is something of a minor miracle  Me? If I still lived there, I'd buy the hell out of it- good luck with your negotiations.

I'd buy that for $6-700 and put in some elbow grease on it. would be some dirty work but all good things are worth it and I think this could be. as mentioned above, i'd get an additional shelf and cook away on it.

That's a nice lil set up once you get a makeover on it. Always good to have options, and not just the go-big-or-go-home type of trailer.

A little bit of elbow grease will go a long way. This will be my first stick burner so I am sure there will be a learning curve but hopefully I will have it down pat prior to getting my Shirley.
