I see you are in Texas. If you have an Atwoods near by, I get Lumberjack for $8.99 a 20lb bag here in OK.

It is the cheapest I have found, without ordering a whole pallet. On occasion, they run them on sale for $7.99. Lumberjack is a top notch brand as well.

Not sure you can get them directly anymore without being a distributor and a loading dock.

I also do my due diligence and source heating pellets for my use. Not saying you should but I do. For about $5.00 per 40# I'm happy with Them.

Find something local and avoid the shipping charges. Only one I would say to stay away from are Traeger pellets. I use Lumberjack because I can get them locally.

Why stay away from Traeger pellets?

Are some brands different than others? I’m not familiar with pellet smokers at all. Are the pellets 100% wood or do they have other additives as well?

They are 100% wood, but some brands will sell hicorky pellets that are made of 2/3 oak or Alder and 1/3 hickory. Traeger sometimes, doesn't use any of the flavored wood, and adds flavoring, instead of the actual wood. This is the same with other types of woods, like apple, mesquite, etc. What we are saying when we say 100% it means the pellet is made up of 100% the type of wood that it says on the bag.

Yep, what Josh said. Not sure if it's still true, but in the past, Traeger Hickory pellets had no actual hickory wood. They added a "hickory flavor oil", I think one of their other varieties was the same, but don't recall which "flavor" it was.

keller is close enough to dallas......you have several options.

1. academy sports sells B&B brand pellets...I think they are $10/11 a 20lb bag

2. cash and carry sells bear mountain pellets.......oh and it just like a restaurant depot store and its free to the public. they have 20lb and 36lb size bags. the 20lb I think are like $10 and the 35lb is like $16 I think...?

I was actually at the STL BBQ store and had a good conversation with a guy working there. Several brands of pellets (I think lumberjack being one) are harder than others. So if you have a long auger style smoker they can jam your auger. If you have a short shaft auger you shouldn’t have issues.

That being said I can get Lumberjack for 8.99/20 lb bag but I buy BBQ’rs delight for $14 so I don’t have to worry about auger jams.
