So the reminder that this is QTalk meant nothing? :-D

Sorry, Rocky.

If you can give an example of hour it was used we may be able to get a serious answer

A guy made a charcoal basket out of a pail. He goes by Beer Can Fisher on the UDS FB page.

Just make a charcoal basket...

Dang... that is certainly fugly. Is there enough air flow ?

they actually work better than the $70 one I bought and the ash stays in the bottom for easy removal and you can even double up the cans and make them bigger .

Instead of a pizza pan, I use a deep dish pie pan with my Vortex basket... ash falls in and normally it is not more than 2" deep.

Beer Can Fisher! Dang.... I like the other suggestions better :-P

For what it's worth.... In the past, I've used the el cheapo tabletop $10 grills as a catch-basin for ash in all the UDS's I've built.

It was on another UDS group that it was being referred to often.
It is Bean Can Firebasket!!
Being a 5 year UDS user I thought I'd heard it all!
Picture a few posts ahead is it on the money; looks like a good way to go, easy to clean ashes. Easy enough to build

Thx all, mystery solved

I just made a couple of them. A 5g, and the larger double stack he calls the 6.0 BCF. Super easy to make, and solved the low heat problem in my 55g. I also put together the "Redneck UDS" Had an old Weber Kettle, a new 35g steel drum. Gave the UDS Hybrid to my son, he loves it, did a tri tip for his first cook and it turned out great.

Tri tip turned out perfect

Firebasket aka BCF 6.0

1 change we made, adding a rod under the grill, so tri tips and chicken halves can hang. Won't fit 14 chicken halves or 10 tri tips like a biog barrel, but he won't need that, lol. Tri tips cook so evenly, as do the birds.

Posted these pic's off of photobucket, figured out a work around so I can still upload and post pics from the site.

It would also help to know the exact minute and second it was used as well.

Careful Ron, remember this is Qtalk:grin:
