Simple question, maybe a not so simple answer.

What causes a charcoal bed to burn from the bottom, to the top, on a ceramic cooker?

Anybody that has used a ceramic cooker for any length of time knows what Iím talking about. Sometimes when you light the charcoal in the cooker, instead of surrounding the ignition point from the center out, it seems to burn straight down. Essentially defying most of the what we think about fire behavior.

Iíve had the same BGE for about 7 years and itís only happened a hand full of times. But when it does itís highly annoying.

What are your thoughts? Wind, moisture, outside temp, etc. i light it with a mapp gas torch the same way every time and every once and a while this happens.

Burns from top down toward air source.
